Satyricon Irpinia Campi Taurasini Aglianico 2021

An exceptional aglianico that was a perfect pairing with a tasting menu of Tuscan and Roman food. A little VA - but not in a distracting way! — 6 months ago

Cinnamon and cloves on bouquet and palate combined those with red fruit though may get a little plum mid palate. Smooth to course tannins that add to the long lasting mouthfeel. Like a lot. 1 more bottle. Drink in next 5 — 4 years ago

Ion Irpinia Campi Taurasini Aglianico 2016

Great wine, surely better than expected. But then I think I’d rather a proper taurasi. Trying a touch too hard to approach new age palate. — 6 years ago

Bicento Campi Taurasini Aglianico 2013

This is a full-bodied & concentrated 100% Aglianico from Campania, Italy. The vineyards are understood to be 200-years old in Campi Taurasini, hence the name of the wine ‘Bicento’ (twice hundred). This makes them the oldest in Europe. The wine is robust, intense, pitch dark with firm, dusty tannins. The finish is very good, with dark berry, black plum, licorice, & spice flavours — 4 years ago

Cretarossa Irpina Campi Taurasini Aglianico 2013

Delectable Wine
9.1

Dark and smoky, the 2013 Cretarossa shows ashen stone, blackberries, sage, underbrush and a spritz of tangerine. It’s silky in texture yet lifted and elegant, with a wave of black fruits coasting along a saline core of acids and minerals. Energy remains high throughout the grippy tannins. $25.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, November 2021) — 5 years ago

Re‘na Vota Campi Taurasini Aglianico 2010

This is a fine Aglianico that is honest and well-crafted but not for the faint of heart. Intensely gamey cured meat aromas dominate the profile up front followed by tar, licorice, fennel, smoke and violets. Mid palate is supple and silken, suggesting flavors of dried currants and peppermint candy. The finish brings a decidedly dry and ferrous minerality that screams for animal flesh, so I strongly suggest you heed that most primal call. Showing very strong concentration and firm tannic grip at nearly age 10. Seems to drink more gracefully in Burgundy glasses, and still has some maturing to do. An outstanding value and will delight the senses of those who appreciate Italian rusticity and classic food pairings from the South (THIS guy). — 6 years ago

Irpinia Aglianico

Campi Taurasini is like the Rosso di Montalcino of Campania; both have a better known sibling. This aglianico has a lovely crimson hue, hints of maturation with leather, spice, bayleaf but also loads of fruit. Well balanced tannin and acidity, mineral and ripe. Great wine, even better with food. — 10 years ago
