Cathiard Vineyard

Founding Brothers Napa Valley Red Blend 2020

I think this is the only 2020 Napa I have bought & tasted.
Opened one the day after they arrived which is way too soon to judge but it was better than expected for the vintage. Tons of sediment surprisingly. Winery notes below-
Owners: Florence & Daniel Cathiard
Produced and bottled on Cathiard Vineyard’s estate
Yields 2.5 tons / acre (37 hL/ha)
Average vine age 25 years
Grape variety 55% Cabernet Sauvignon
40% Merlot
5% Cabernet Franc
Alcohol 13.9%
Harvest dates From Sept. 10, 2020, to Oct. 2, 2020
Harvest Hand-harvested from our oldest hillside vineyard and
valley floor vines.
Winemaking Gentle de-stemming, optical sorting of berries
to ensure the best whole berries are utilized.
Grapes are transferred to fermentation vessels
by gravity and left to cold soak for up to 5 days.
Fermentation temperature maintained under 82F
(28C), with gentle manipulations by pump-overs
and punch-downs. After 30 days in tanks the wine is
drained, pressed, and undergoes a naturally occurring
malolactic fermentation in new
French oak.
Barrel-aging 16-18 months,
40% new French oak and 20% large foudres.

Started soft and a little salty, opened beautifully to become sweeter, more tart and intense. Very nice experience. — 2 years ago

Bourgogne Hautes Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir 2020

Oh this is sooo good. Cherries, top soil and spices all along. Fine bottle with good length and an elegant finish. Punches above its weight. All Cathiard wines are now expensive in France having caught up with the US prices. A pity as the wines are top notch. — 3 months ago

Lighter style for Cathiard. Floral with rose petal, cranberry, potpourri overtones. Good to drink now while I wait for the Vosne. — 2 years ago

Wow. Waterfall of light red fruit into sublime acidity. Bouquet and mouthfeel both startlingly good. Longer than the drive from Avize. Cathiard probably the only comparable I have experienced. A privilege. — 3 years ago

Hora Napa Valley Red Blend 2021

Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (35%) and Malbec (10%, which is quite noticeable). Dark ruby/purple color. Aromas of ripe dark fruit, mint, cedar and wet clay/stones. Flavors of black cherry/berry/currant, coffee, black licorice and chocolate. Long and savory finish. Incredibly smooth tannins and light acidity. Thanks for the taste, Kase. — 4 months ago

This is so delicious. Seamless, plush, sexy, integrated. Intense, with a texture like cashmere and deep plum, floral notes, red cherry. In a fantastic place right now. — 7 months ago
