Les Parcelles Bouzy Grand Cru Champagne Blend

A deep yellow, almost gold color. Lively effervescence with plenty of frothing and creaminess. The nose is pure excitement with a good bit of oak and robust apples initially here. There’s a nice smoky note going on that is so pleasing. Fresh red cherries and dainty flowers abound. The smear of honey that you get is positively divine.

A terrific grower from one of my favorite Grand Cru villages, Bouzy. Such lovely Pinot Noir from there and this is no exception. Based on the 2016 vintage and composed of 70/30 PN/CH. Disgorged in May of 2021 with a dosage of 1 g/l, there is certainly that beautiful bite that I love so much from these Extra Brut champagnes. A definite streak of elegance and sophistication.

In the mouth, there’s a heft and a weight that comes as a bit of surprise, but a pleasant one. The red fruits from the nose are well represented on the palate. The finish doesn’t last long but you rectify that by pouring another glass. Very impressive.

Naturessence Champagne Blend

Powerful and dense, nicely juxtaposed by the racy chalkiness and snap of its acidity. Some post-disgorgement age has brought great balance and complexity. There’s ripe/baked apple, asian pear, orange peel, white strawberry, fresh dough, chalk, nutmeg, salt, some honey. Can clearly sense the 50/50 CH/PN and their respective terroirs. Kudos for purity given its low-to-no SO2 upbringing, which I find particularly hard to execute in Champagne. 5/2016 disgorgement. — 5 years ago

Mendoza Malbec Blend 2017

JV btw Ch Cheval Blanc & Terrazas De Los Andes, blend of Bordeaux "First Growth" winemaking in ARG, blend of Malbec (62%) & Cab Sauv (38%), aged 15 months in oak (50% new), riper fruit, slightly more alcohol than ‘16, deep Ruby, complex aromas of berry fruits & floral spice nose. On the palate flavors, blueberry and juicy blackberry fruit with spicy herb, cacao & smoky oak. Fine soft tannins, well balanced, good acidity, long finish ending with fruit & oak. Ch Washington State Chardonnay 2019

Medium straw color; smells like yellow apple and maybe jasmine on the nose; medium acidity; tastes like star fruit, saline, and a hint of butter with a long finish. I'm really enjoying the minerality. — 3 years ago

Triumvirat Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend 2011

Classic blend of CH, PN, PM, 1/3 each. 60+ months on the lees, disgorged Jan 2020.
This is complex & quite profound. Nose shows terrific tension between the lemon, lemon peel & kumquat and the toasted brioche with fresh hazelnuts & freshly made creme brûlée.
Lovely mouthfeel, v. creamy & quite rich yet impeccably balanced with electric acidity, super fine froth and a hint of minerality in the background. Great depth, purity and precision, but most of all, finesse.
This beats most Champagnes flat out.
A truly great wine!
