More refined and more mineral, more elegant nose, fermentation in 3-4 year old barrels, plan is to have length. 70-115 years old . All old barrels. Same parcel. Spectacular palate with length, complexity and purity, rounder and more opulent, with terrific complexity and length, salty and mineral finish. So pure. NO ML. — 7 years ago
Recently rebranded as La Roche Mère this is the most prestigious of the three wines from this property
Earthy violet, hints of chocolate and cedar. Great length and balance - this has a refinement you don't find in Argentine malbec
Exceptionally smooth tannins with enough acidity to compliment most dishes on the table. There is oak on the nose and palate but it is held in check, adding to the wine's complexity — 7 years ago
Staff pick from Total Wine & More. Smooth, berry finish. Will purchase again. — a month ago
Dark cherry and violet aromas. Red, blue and black berry flavors with notes of black currant, earth and spice. A little Jammy, but the bright acidity keeps the wine in balance. Dark garnet color. — 4 years ago
Soooooo soft. Total velvet. Crocus, lavender water, hung just above silky blueberry and blackberry preserves. Gorgeous. — 7 years ago
NV. Tart cherry, black current, and marionberry clover honey mead. Dry mead with a little tartness on the finish. We loved it as a nightcap to a great Thanksgiving! — a year ago
Fermented in stainless steel then 24 months in New French oak 225 liter barrels. Deep ruby with purple highlights. Pronounced aromas of stone, herbs (lavender), meat, violet, and iron, plush tannins, but very ripe and round. Meat, plum, Great elegance and length. Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Beautiful nose of black currants, light oak, spices, plums, cooked cherries, herbs, garrigue, earth, espresso, light vegetables, forest floor, dried meats and black tea.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Very dry on the palate with black plums, black currants, light wood, spices, coffee, black tea, peppercorn and cola notes.
Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 13 year old French Malbec is still drinking very nicely, but a tad past its prime. Complex and chewy.
Showing a wonderful nose and a complex mid palate, but the finish was a bit disappointing. Loved smelling on it for a long time.
Definitely showing its age, especially on the nose. Doesn't drink like a Malbec at all, though. Feels more like an old world Bordeaux blend. So interesting. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Wine Enthusiasts 90 points.
Good right out of the bottle and got more complexity as it opened up. (30 minutes).
A great food wine that paired nicely with hard cheeses.
14% alcohol by volume.
