The Bart family is based in Marsannay and most famous for wines from their own village. However, like many OG families in Burgundy, they often have holdings in other areas. In the case of the Barts, they have holdings in Fixin, and even a couple of Grand Cru vineyards: Clos de Beze and Bonnes Mares. Their holdings in Bonnes Mares amount to a little over two acres that were inherited through the Clair side of the family. The vines are on the Chambolle Musigny side, right next to Comte Georges de Vogüe, and almost half of the vines are over 100 years old.

This bottle was opened sometime prior to dinner by our host. The 2016 pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of kirsch, black plum, mixed brambles, musk, red and purple flowers, sous bois and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is silky; elegant. Every now and again, a wine comes into your life when you least expect it and leaves such an impression that you can’t stop thinking about it. This is one of those wines. I want more of this in my life. Drink now and take your time with it, through 2046+? — 14 days ago

Noticeably deep colour , deeper than all the others , medium deep ruby quite thin ruby rim . Quite herbal and deep on the nose , with darker fruit profile . Blackberry , dark plum, dark cherry , earthy herbal touches. On the palate this is quite dense and rich with dark cherry , kirsch, blackberry , and a richer frame . Quite gritty but ripe tannins , with balanced acidity . Decent lightly chalky cherry , blackberry, herbal tinged finish . Very different from all others , darker and richer , riper . However , still well made , though not that charming or , dare I say it ‘Burgundian’ , probably as expected . I believe this also needs some time , come back in 5 years and drink over the next 10 or so. — 2 months ago

Quite reticent and backward .. needed some time to open up. Dark bramble fruits, earthy , mineral. Complex and kept changing in the glass. Lovely sweet black fruits and suave but noticeable tannins, good acidity . Very long in the mouth, very complete. It probably requires a touch longer in the cellar to open out a bit more but was very enjoyable. An excellent wine with a great future . — 8 years ago

Remarkable wine. So much potential. I feel kinda sad drinking it this young. The nose was so seductive. Perfumed fruits and flowers. The palate still very fruit forward. The texture ethereal. The finish lengthy. NZ ftw! — 9 years ago
