Les Grandes Terrasses Cornas Syrah 2020

DCH
9.3

On the lighter extraction side. Could be mistaken for Cote-Rotie rather than Cornas. Tannins are subdued, but elegant. More in the autumnal, green tobacco here rather than the smoked meat and leather. Easy and effortless.

Have always heard Cornas needs extra aging. Not the case here, although I suspect the bright acidity will carry this wine years into the future. This bottle is begging for a seared duck breast. From Bern’s bottle shop.

Les Bruyères Beaujolais-Villages Blanc Chardonnay 1923

This 100% Chardonnay wine combines the best of the AOC Beaujolais Villages, it is sourced from a combination of vineyards by a well-exposed plateau at the entrance to the village of Fleurie. Since the appellation’s soil is mainly clay-silty, it gives Chardonnay a nice amplitude of expression.
This vintage shows a brilliant pale color, aromas are quite noticeable on baked Barlett pear and quince. The aging process on fine lees for 4 months provides a more intense and complex mouthfeel, less acidic but still balanced with some peachy nuances on the mid-range of the palate as well.
It pairs fantastic with cooked pressed pasta, white meat, seafood and even fruit dessert pies. However; it can be a great standalone wine as well. Cheers!

Les Grandes Vignes Chablis Chardonnay 2023

Chenevièrs – “Grandes Vignes” Chablis 2023
Chablis, Burgundy, France 🇫🇷

Overview
100% Chardonnay grown on a plateau of Kimmeridgian limestone soils in “La Chapelle Vaupeltigne,” a northern sector of the Chablis appellation. This terroir is prized for its fossil-rich soils, which impart the minerality and precision that make Chablis so distinctive.

Aromas & Flavors
Fresh-cut lemon, crisp green apple, and white peach layered with chalky minerality and subtle floral notes. Hints of oyster shell and wet stone nod to the limestone soils beneath the vines.

Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with razor-sharp acidity, dry and mineral-driven. A very clean and linear style, finishing with elegance and a lingering citrus zest freshness.

Winemaking Notes
Fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity and terroir transparency. Unoaked, ensuring the vibrancy of Chardonnay shines in its most authentic Burgundian expression.

Food Pairing
Ideal with oysters, mussels, or any shellfish. Also pairs beautifully with goat cheese, light poultry, or simply as a crisp aperitif.

Verdict
A textbook Chablis that captures the essence of its limestone terroir. Elegant, refreshing, and precise—an affordable way to enjoy one of Burgundy’s most distinctive white wines. Cheers!
