Diemersdal Estate

Eight Rows Sauvignon Blanc 2016

— 7 years ago

Eight Arms

The Argonaut Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Revisiting. It actually did well with a smidge of age. Less saline more really ripe kumquat. I want this wine to be my best friend. Like we are both gonna change and mature but will always provide quality us-time to each other. Dang I’m worried Eight Cellars isn’t making wine anymore? Because I was able to buy 2014 Sauvignon Blanc in 2018... — 8 years ago

Frog's Leap

Rutherford Merlot 2019

We adored this wine. Lively and tense eight acidity depth and a peppery verve, it was amazing with a steakhouse dinner, but equally wonderful the second night with salad, cheese and a hearty bread. — 3 years ago

Il Palazzone

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Tasted alongside the 2015 vintage. Both wines were opened about eight hours in advanced and allowed to slow-ox at cellar temp (51°F). Comparatively, this was more open for business. Dark cherry, gym sock, dried herbs, leather, and tomato leaf on the nose. On the palate, dusty cherry fruit with black tea and dried herbs. Rustic. Quite an old school charmer! Towards the end of the bottle, this started to tighten back up a bit but it was still my favorite of the two vintages tonight. I expect this to enjoy a long life. — 5 years ago

Wathen's Kentucky Bourbon

Eight Generations Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

An amazing value. Spiced fruit, clove, honey, vanilla, amazing oak notes - just an outstanding bourbon. It’s light enough that it would make an outstanding summer whisky, but drinking it neat with no water is serving me just right on this cold November night. — 7 years ago

Bevan Cellars

Ontogeny Oakville Red Wine 2014

You haven’t really lived until you’ve tasted Russell Bevan’s wine. His 2014 Ontogeny had me exclaiming “OH.... Daaaaayuuuum....” after my first sniff, and then again after each of the subsequent eight or ten sips with various and usually increasing changes in inflection. Blackberry compote drenched in crème de cassis accented with smoked brisket and white flowers. Tertiary notes of lavender, leather, a faint tinge of brett, and a little magic marker provide an exotic backdrop for a wine that exudes its own Napa style. — 8 years ago

Mount Pleasant Wines

Eight Acres Sémillon 2014

An entry level Semillon from Mount Pleasant. More user friendly and fruit forward without the acidity and austerity of their Flagship Semillon, Lovedale, at this age. Crisp with Citrus flavours. Thought I detected a little oak but not sure. Sometimes used in young HV Sem to make it more palatable. Would never be used in the Flagship - stainless steel all the way. From a good vintage in the Hunter. — 3 years ago

Sine Qua Non

And An Eight Track California Rosé 2013

Certainly different than The Pontiff. This was lighter and more classically Rosé whereas in a blinder glass I’m not sure I would identify The Pontiff as a Rosé at all. For my taste, this was enjoyable, but not mind-blowing (which is usually the case for me with wines from SQN). — 7 years ago

St Innocent Winery

Villages Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Tried this again, good value. St. Innocent Winery was founded in May 1988 by Mark Vlossak, with eight investors. Ten tons of grapes were crushed the first fall, producing about 575 cases of wine. Deep red with berry fruit aromas, spice and floral notes. On the palate cherry and raspberry flavors, juicy with herb pepper notes. Fine tannins, nicely balanced with acidity on a lingering finish ending with fruit and earthy mineral. Nice Value. — 8 years ago
