100 percent unfiltered cab fro spring mountain that is absolutely delicious. — 6 years ago
— 8 years ago
Steve Distler, owner of Arnyca, is doing consulting for a few small labels out in Napa. As I've posted before, his Arnyca cab franc is my favorite out of Napa Valley. He was the former GM at O'Brien Estate and was able to add them to his portfolio, along with Cobden Wini (winemaker for Arnyca and winemaker at O'Brien), Frias Family and Jack Winery. Killer line-up of small production stuff. We hosted him for a wine dinner and all of it was stellar.
Jack Winery utilizes the talents of Aonair winemaker Grant Long Jr. Jack was started by Vernon Wells (former MLB player) and Chris Ianetta (current MLB player). This '14 cab is from Diamond mountain and drinking well at a young age. Not as monstrous as young Howell Mountain cabs. Red and black fruit dominant with a decent amount of espresso and pepper. Needs to rest for a few years but has very good potential to be extremely good. — 9 years ago

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a beautiful one from Napa Valley.
Inky in color with a short reddish rim.
Fruity nose of black currants, plums, blackberries, raisins, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, cola, aluminum, mediterranean spices and peppercorn.
Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, spices, licorice, cedar, chocolates, light herbs, peppercorn and light black tea.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This is gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley. Elegant and smooth. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining.
Needed 90 minutes in the decanter to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle too.
This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very approachable.
Delicious by itself as a sipping wine or with food.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged for 23 months in French oak barrels. Unfiltered and unfined.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
93 points.

It’s a hot day and this 2019 Rosé really hits the spot. Bright peachy colors seem to have me tasting apples and pears. Not overly fruity but definitely fruit forward. Rosé lovers will enjoy for sure. — 6 years ago
Pop and pour, wine shows fantastic out of the gate. Insanely dark, inky in the glass. Wonderful nose with loads of vanilla oak and a hint of pepper with a slight alcohol burn. First taste far exceeds expectation. Velvety tannin l, the vanilla note shines in this wine (which works wonderfully) for the price this wine is amazing. A Calistoga wine for the price and quality is almost unheard of in this day and age. Defiantly seek it out. — 7 years ago

Juicy, succulent with layers of texture. Black cherry and licorice with smoke, vanillin, and red rose petal. Really unique palate.. smooth and almost airy but with a beautiful cherry fruit texture. Blind, I would have guessed this to be the spring mountain, honestly. 100% single block Oakville vineyard. Nothing like regular oakville and I love it for that. — 9 years ago
Best red I've ever had in my life. Totally unbelievably smooth. More delicious with every sip. Thank you to my cousins for sharing a glass. — 11 years ago
Pale yellow color. Clear. Strong pear flavor? High acidity yet mildly sweet. Really hits the back and side of the tongue. Smokey after taste with a long finish. — 13 years ago
Gooood Juice! — 6 years ago
Full of depth and complexity, notes of black raspberry, créme anglaise, graphite with great structure and a long finish. Only 780 cases produced. — 8 years ago
Bright ruby red with a super dark core. A little spicy on the nose with tons of floral notes. A bit chalky too with graphite and plush red fruits. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Dry with dark raspberries on the attack with some graphite and rocks in the medium plus finish. Drink till 2020.
Interesting blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Syrah and 5% Merlot. — 9 years ago

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and expressive. Fruit forward and elegant. Spicy and entertaining. Complex and nicely balanced. Soft and smooth.
Already approachable, yet still very young, and needs more time in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours of airtime.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like a big piece of steak.
