Dï Meun Vin Rouge

Roughly 50% Petite Rouge with the balance being a field blend of Coralin, Fumin, Mayolet, Vien de Nus and Gamay. Medium garnet color. Aromas and flavors of red and black cherry, purple flowers, black raspberry, cranberry, almonds and pepper spice. Nice rustic and smoky earthiness on the long finish. Medium-minus body, light tannins and beautifully balanced. Needs some time to open up. Small production and unique. Excellent choice, Petey P! Love this producer! Revisited in September 2024. Quite a unique crowd pleaser. — 2 years ago

Chateau Feuillet

Valle d'Aosta DOC Fumin 2016

My first fumin. Dark fruit, earth, spice, leather. For a wine that was 6 years old, it still had a remarkable Alpine freshness to it that I found to be very exciting. Will definitely try others! 90% Fumin, 10% Syrah. 8/14/22. — 4 years ago

Well that might the best $24 I spent. Couldn’t pass up a late vintage release. — 5 years ago

Rouge de Vallée Red Blend 2027

70% Picotendro (local Nebbiolo clone), 30% Gros Vien, Neyret, Cornalin and Fumin. Light, 13%, nice spicy fruit with a little bitterness on the end. Not tannic whatsoever. Very interesting wine. — 2 years ago

Maison Anselmet

La Touche Red Blend 2018

This red blend from Valle d'Aosta was remarkably smooth and light on its feet considering it's 14% ABV. Notes of red fruit on the nose and berry jam on the palate. Very enjoyable! A blend of Petite Rouge, Cornalin, Mayolet, and Fumin. 6/14/23. — 3 years ago

La Vrille

Vallée D'Aoste Vuillermin 2016

This is Fumin Junior, with much more acidity. Besides that, there are heavy dark fruit flavors. This is much more explosive with heavy pasta and very spicy meat sauce. Wonderful! — 6 years ago

Vallee d'Aoste Fumin 2022

I love this producer. This wine is deeper, darker and more structured than some of their other (no less interesting) varietal bottlings. Brambly and smoky wild berries abound. Young but approachable — 10 months ago

Chambave Vallée d'Aoste Fumin Petit Rouge 2020

Delicious, but quite the departure from the style of wine from this region I am used to.

Medium to medium+ body, More fruit forward with the typical bitters you find in petit rouge (95%).

Valle d'Aosta Mayolet 2016

Mayolet, by itself, is a cousin of fumin: very dark when poured, but very light. The sad part, though, is that there is very little Mayolet. — 6 years ago
