Wow! This is special. It smells of wet stone and vanilla and tastes of crisp apples with a light champagne finish. The front is warm with a cool finish. Dry. Notes of citrus and unripe pear. A smidge woody and a gentle yeastyness. Love this! — 4 years ago
Mmmmm. Sleek, charming, and complex - I need to drink more Austrian Riesling on this level. A very precise medium-bodied stunner with generous fruit cradled in remarkable acidity.
More info: Burgstall is a windy plateau with sandy gneiss and granite soils. 84 cases imported to U.S. $35 — 5 years ago
One of the more interesting Muscadets I've had! Definitely more perfumed than any other I've had in the past; aromas of honeydew melon, starfruit, and a bit of white rose join the classic Muscadet citrus and briny mineral character, which has an almost iodine-y character in this example that I actually really like. On the palate it shows more like classic Muscadet, with the citrus, hard cheese rind, and briny oyster shell predominating while the melon and floral character of the nose is replaced by ripe yellow apple. Acid is kickin' and razor sharp. Has a nice weighty medium body from the lees treatment but still remains nimble and quenching. Solid stuff. Would love to try it with the Gneiss and Orthogneiss to see how the soil type affects the final product, as i'm pretty sure they're all vinified pretty similarly. — 10 years ago
Even more mineral than Gneiss. More pronounced acidity but balanced — 11 years ago
Mineral intense muscadet love this saline finish — 3 years ago

Carignan & Grenache from old vines grown on gneiss, aged 2y in cement tanks, organic & non filtered.
Fresh & not overly fruity with the carignan driven aromas of fur, roast, leather & spices taking the lead. Some fresh, juicy, minty raspberries in the background.
On the palate this is supple & quite fruity yet bone dry, very fresh & energetic with fine, zippy tannins and a garrigue streak. There’s a nice mineral backbone, too, which comes to shine in the finish.
A lovely, delicious wine, off the beaten track.

White flowers, apricot, honey, and minerality. Elevated acid. On gneiss soil.. — 7 years ago

Great with chocolate, bad with citrus. Refreshing and light. Definitely drinkable
Established in 1779, whole cluster fermented 2 weeks, 40 year old vines on gneiss soil. Unlike most pinot noir, raw flavor, easy drinking, versatile wine, served slightly chilled. — 9 years ago
Less than 350 cases, Guigal hermitage old clone of Syrah aka Serine with some Viognier. Lieu-dit La Viallière meaning special soils of decomposed schist and gneiss. No chemicals, natural yeasts, and Demi-muids/ new wood barrels. Ruby garnet color with aromas of bacon, cherry, rose petals while silky on the palette with some herbal notes on the finish. Medium to full body. — 11 years ago

2015 vintage. Goulaine is the northernmost of the 7 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine subzones (considered the highest quality crus). Gneiss and schist soils. This beauty was aged for more than 18 months on the lees. Brillant pale yellow. Intensely perfumed, an intriguing mix of flowers, grapefruit and saffron, combined with a distinctive minerality. Crisp and intense taste with mouth-watering bright citrus fruit, a distinctive saffron-like touch and that typical Muscadet saltiness in the long finish. Incredible value at 19 euro. Note also that these wines (always 100 % Melon de Bourgogne) can age beautifully. — 6 years ago
