@Delectable Wine This is the 2023 Havens Napa Valley Zinfandel. Supposedly from mature (40 yr old) vines, it’s a great value in a soft, interesting and balanced (only 14.5% alc) Zin. Nose has ripe, oozy blackberry fruit, some of that nice Napa gravelly earthiness, and a mocha note. Big whack of soft, sultry fruit on the opening palate, with everything in nice proportion. Very soft texture. This is a Zin for drinking now, not ageing.

@Dave - I love well-made Zin, but I admit there’s a lot of crappy Zin out there. I love it because it goes with a lot of the things we tend to cook (lots of Italian type dishes and meat or chicken braises). Region and alcohol levels under 15% are key for me. Sonoma (esp. Dry Creek), Napa, Sierra Foothills are my favorites, but I’ve had some nice Paso and Contra Costa wines. I think Lodi is overrated. I always look for old vines. Favorite producers include Ridge, Once & Future, Rafanelli, Bedrock, Howell Mountain Vineyards, Storybook. Not a Turley fan so much. Our beloved previous dog was named Zinny.
