Erdener Treppchen Kabinett Riesling 2015

Loving the 7.5%, and it’s good with spice, but too much residual sugar to enjoy on its own. — 7 months ago

I actually enjoy drinking good Riesling Kabs (and some Spatlese) on their own, but find that, to my taste, they never quite fit in with the things I typically eat. But I could smell and sip for hours!

@Tom Casagrande you are not in Asian dishes, Tom? They are perfect to fit with Riesling…

@Peter van den Besselaar - I do like Asian dishes! And I like Alsace Riesling and other Alsace varietals with some Asian dishes. It’s just the German Kabs and Spatleses that I (subjectively) find to be overwhelmed by such dishes.

Château le Meynieu

JR sourced library wine in 2013! Enticing ripe floral darker fruit spicy nose and lively palate with good finish. Said to be classic old school Medoc and what a nice wine. Better than previous notes on CVed bottle. Last one and already at peak. Yum. — 4 years ago

Weingut Karl Haubs - Barzen Erben

Indeed still a lively lovely old Riesling from Haubs-Barzen library release via JR, as previously noted. Color not as dark as non library wines. Wasn’t expecting a Kab can age so long and so well. Perfect for hot pot Birthday dinner for Evan. Yum. — 4 years ago

Balance and soft textures thirty years! Say ten years after acquiring from JR whose email says matriarch passing freed up this library holding back then. — 7 months ago

Fiorano (Boncompagni Ludovisi)

Mistake! Last of two, first one opened in 2019 and meant to keep this one aging but forgot! It’s drinking beautifully, complex profile with fruits and stones singing together and am enticing texture that makes me sip more without the seafood. Too bad, no more to grow old! From JR Half Voignier and half Grecetto! Wow, got even better after days in Eto, More evolved, complex, lingering finish. Too bad it’s gone. Indeed quite a wine for aging. — 3 years ago
