Stopped at K&L today. Ran into Gary Wesby their Champagne Buyer. He recommended this cuvée I have not had, nor heard. It is 90% Chardonnay & 10% Pinot Noir. 6 years on lees. 7.2 grams dosage. $49.99. Excellent recommendation at this price point.
It is beautiful & pleasant when it initially hits the palate. The mousse is soft, creamy w/ micro oxygenation. It is more reductive than oxidative, which appeals to me.
It’s red & some green apple, Bosc pear, hues of pineapple juice, tropical melons, white stone fruits, vanillin, graham cracker, brioche, caramel hues, malt, some yeast & bread dough, crisp, grey volcanics, crushed limestone, crunchy, crush, chalk, saline, sea fossils, yellow florals, Jasmine, white flowers, excellent, crisp acidity, nicely tensioned, well balanced, perfectly knitted finish that falls onto beautiful minerality and lasts nearly two-minutes. — 2 years ago
Pop and pour. A bit under a year since my last btl. May 2016 lot, Aug 2019 disg. 5 g/L dosage. On the nose: lemon, baked apple with a touch of butter. On the palate: soft mousse, lovely meyer lemon and apple. Fantastic density and acidity. Crisp, yet good weight. Still young, but very yummy. — 4 years ago
A clear shimmering gold color in glass with vivacious tiny bubbles that go on and on. Very pretty and stately in appearance. An absolute burst of orchard fruits on the nose with pears and peaches. A touch of grapefruit with a dab of honey. These floral notes are a bit enchanting and delicate. Hazelnuts and green apples abound the longer it grows in the glass.
When I think of Cédric Moussé, I automatically think of Meunier, as he is one of the Masters of Meunier. This Blanc de Blancs comes from plots in Cuisles and Jonquery originally planted with Pinot Meunier. Disgorged in 2019 with an Extra Brut of 2 g/l, this thing sings and is so delicious. The acidity is zesty and the structure is well balanced. Full of life and power.
The palate is charming from first sip to the last. Mirroring the nose, those pears and peaches tantalize while yeast makes you smile. Very mineral driven and plenty of chalky goodness. Apples become dominant as times goes on. The finish has nice length with some unexpected white pepper. A unique entry in the Moussé portfolio and it most definitely belongs. — 4 years ago
Tasty French white from Chapman tasty. Not a typical Chardonnay. — 5 years ago
It has been a while since I’ve opened a Clemence. A favorite of mine & Sofia once upon a time. Still drink it, just not as often as I have moved to mostly Extra Brut. This is a Brut at 8g. Excellent Champagne & value at $44.99.
I believe there are only two resellers you can acquire it, one east coast & one west-K&L. You have to buy it pretty quickly once they get their container. It took several yrs building that relationship as Launois is careful about who they let resell their cuvées. In fact, it is even difficult to get in France. K&L has standing orders from some French citizens they ship back to France once they receive it. Kinda crazy.
The palate has nice mousse with lively acidity and micro oxygenation. Lime/lemon pulp w/ zest, stone fruits-white dominant, grapefruit w/ pith, bruised red/golden apples, Bosc pear, caramel, vanillin, some yeast, baguette crust, white spice, gritty, grey volcanics, chalky bits, limestone marl, oyster shells, yellow flowers/lilies, spring flowers with a little greens mixed in, very good acidy, well; made/balanced/tensioned with a smartly polished, elegant finish that lasts minutes and land on excellent minerality.
If you get to Champagne, visit. They have a huge museum of champagne/wine artifacts that date back to BC. My two pics do not show its enormity. They are about 35-40 minutes south of Reims.
They are the only producer I know of that places a rubber casket attached to the bottom of their corks. So, next to never do their cuvées have cork taint.
Enjoying it with the Jasper Hill Farms - Willoughby, buttery washed soft white cheese. Try with Rainbow Crisp crackers or warm baguette. Also, on apples with and w/o honey. — 5 months ago
NV | 90% Chardonnay 10% Pinot Noir Dosage 5g/L comes from the vineyards in d’Avenay, Coligny, Vauciennes, Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry. 25% fûts de chêne. Bottled may 2018, degorgement august 2020. Very true to type champagne with lovely acidity, tension and balance. — 5 years ago
Based on 2012, May 17 disg. 1.5 g/l dosage. A little over 1.5 yrs since my last btl...this is straight fire! On the nose: roast hazelnut, lemon peel, lemon oil, soft vanilla, candied ginger, soft coppery notes...amazing intensity. On the palate: ginger, lime, nuts, cool mint, fantastic acidity, excellent density..slightly clipped finish, but otherwise faaantastic. — 5 years ago

full, fruity, and ripe, with notes of apple, lime, orange zest, and a hint of toast. — 7 months ago
Along with Egly-Ouriet, simply the best entry-level grower champ on the market (IMO). This is 70% base vintage, and 30% reserve wines. Blend is 33/33/33% Pinot/Chard/Meunière. 30+ months on lees… damn delicious. Disgorgement: June 2023 / Dosage: 6 gr/l — a year ago
Again it’s a champagne from Cédric Moussé, one of the Masters of Meunier. He’s almost single-handedly put Cuisles on the wine map. The L’Or D’Eugéne is a perfect introduction to his style.
Medium gold with fast paced perlage and an attractive bouquet. Black cherries and pretty flowers combine with chalk and herbs. In the mouth, it’s racy and vivacious. Sexy and a bit thrilling with zippy acidity. 80/20 Pinot Meunier/Pinot Noir from a perpetual reserve with an Extra Brut dosage of 2 g/l.
I’ve always wanted to drink this over a few days. To really let it breathe and mature in the glass. To really let it set and enjoy it over time. But I can’t. It’s just too damn good. — 3 years ago
Pale lemon in the glass with very active perlage initially. The nose is tremendous with apple butter and fresh baked bread smeared with honey. Green apples and cherries abound along with fresh herbs.
Pure Meunier from the village of Cuisles. These Moussé champagnes are always a distinct treat and easily some of the best on the market. Plus acidity and major plus on the character. Really nice tension and drama here. Dry with much finesse, 4 g/l dosage and disgorged in mid 2016.
Electric on the tongue, this is just coursing energy. Lively and bold, this is a very pure wine with terrific length. A nice bit of citrus on the palate with more apples coming to play. Captivating stuff. As ever. — 4 years ago
From a half bottle. Popped and poured; no formal notes. Persistent mousse. Lovely notes of white peach, pear, brioche and chalky minerals. Super well balanced. Gimonnet rarely disappoints. A multi-vintage blend from 2010-2019. Disgorged May 31, 2021. Dosage 6 g/L. — 4 years ago
Well they’ve done it again. Who is they? Why Cédric Moussé and the Club Trésors de Champagne of course. Another superstar bottle from them.
A muted pale lemon color with an effusive stream of tiny bubbles. Aromas of honeyed almonds, peaches, and crushed herbs. Fresh cherries and apricots sparkle here. Toasty brioche bread and chalky minerality show after some time with green apples being quite dominant after receiving some air.
The Master of Meunier and here it shows. 100% Pinot Meunier from the village of Cuisles located in the Vallee de la Marne. This Special Club offering is from one plot of land, giving it its name, Les Fortes Terres. Disgorged on 10/21/19 with a dosage of 1 g/l, this is refreshingly stark with beautifully racy acidity.
Full bodied and bold on palate, the complexity and purity of the Meunier shines through. Butterscotch and apples start the party off with more cherries and citrus playing along. A nice long, dry finish. Vibrant and captivating. Moussé and Special Club champagnes never disappoint. — 5 years ago
