A bit of caramel on the nose with sweetness and I’d say a hint of peat. It’s full body and punch filling the mouth. Got a bit of heat but pleasant. It has a finish that lasts for a long while as in at least a minute if not longer. Liked it to start and really liking it as I go through the dram. Btw this is not the Pedro Ximenez Cask Finish. Lovely peaty overtones! — 6 years ago
This was fine - kind of a weak sauce version of the Loch Gorm. The smoke was lighter and the texture was thinner than the LG. I’m finding that I prefer my sherry-heavy whiskies to really hold themselves on my tongue and this just didn’t. No off flavors or anything. I’d probably buy it again, especially a bigger bottle so I could taste it as it develops. — 7 months ago
Превосходный виски за смешные деньги. Или я ничего не понимаю в выпивке, или надо брать ящиками! Особенно хорошо заходит под Беовульфа. — a year ago
This Pretty Flamingo Raspberry Sour is very good because it does not taste bitter at all. Instead, it has a fruity aroma with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavours.
Overall, it is sweet and refreshing! Definitely a good beer for sunny day and picnic! — 2 years ago
Golden raisin, strawberries, figs, cut red apple, sweet potato, lemon-dill, oregano, smoke and an almost sweet peat smell as sherry shoulders in. Orange is the backbone, from pure squeezed, to zest, oil and pith. Toast, cedar, humidor, and nougats with roasted almond and cashew from the oak. Very smooth and sensuous mouthfeel with immediate expansion of vanilla, mocha, toffee, and finally a shimmering cinnamon with tiny sparks of heat. Secondary voices of pencil, oregano, crepe caramel, lemon peel, shaved chocolate, buffalo grass that burns into a long finish, with jalapeño-turned-peat. This is extraordinary. I know they are coopering their own barrels on site, and I think it is making a fine whisky even finer. Kudos for this magical glory. — 7 years ago
thank you Dave Blackmore for these beast. the name means 'dark and mysterious', the local loch, or lake where they get their water from for the distillery. ex-sherry casks and some deep balanced Palo Cortado tones with some Fino freshness. 2013 Whisky Bible Whisky of the Year. — 11 years ago
A very specialized whisky - a heavy peated sherry BOMB. Most distilleries don’t bother with this combo because it is thought the two treatments don’t play well together and kind of cancel each other out. I see their point - this wouldn’t be my pick for a great peated or great sherried whisky. However, when i get the craving for that odd combo, nothing else will do. It’s confusing, but delicious. The nose is a great indicator of what you’re getting - smoke first, followed by a wave of dark, stewed fruits. The palate is the same, but with a brown sugar sweetness on the finish. Fascinating dram. — 8 months ago
Old Rhosdhu (Loch Lomand) 30yr 1990 Daily Dram. ABV 47.3% (Silent meaning no longer produced). Light in color for a 30yr old. Nice flavors and punch. Fills the mouth. This one seems to get a poor rating but Nick and I both like it. Little oily, vanilla on the nose, it’s an easy one for me to drink. I’m way in front of the Scotch drinkers but I’m ok with that. — 2 years ago
Mild peat. Not complex, but no bad at all. Moderate spice on the finish. This distillery seems to deliver a decent product on the lower end of the single malt scotch price spectrum. — 7 years ago
Burnt caramel, fruit cake, brine, vegetal perhaps, wood, malt, and a good dose of smoke. Thanks to GC for this amazing drop!
Note: High Spirits is an Italian independent bottler owned by Ferdinando (Nadi) Fiori, which specialises in single cask single malts bottled at cask strength. This bottling is part of the Loch and Castles of Scotland series (No 4 of 18), sporting some beautiful old prints of the subject-in-question on the front label. Incidentally, bottle no 4 of 326 (and 18 mags). Distilled 1995, bottled 2005. Ex-port cask. Springbank Distillery, Campbeltown.
From the whisky whiz KL's IG, although I didn't exactly get the same notes (much to learn here; KL tasted the exact same bottle): A very unique nose. Quite vegetal, capsicum, with a touch of smoke. Rather tight. Palate is sweet and syrupy, vegetal, earthy, and malty. Left to open in the glass for 10 to 15 min, and that's when the magical Springbank character appeared. Beautiful and elegant. Lots of port character. — 9 years ago

Loch Lomond 20yr (Royal St George)
Light nose. First sip came in hot with a quick finish. With a few minutes of air it opened up a lot, smoother and noticeably longer. Wood and spice lead more than caramel for me. Finish is long and a bit drying, hits the tip of the tongue then sits in the cheeks. No real fruit showing on my palate. I’d prefer a bit more fruit or caramel to balance the structure. — 5 months ago
