Mirabelle Brut California White Blend 2021

Jack and Jamie Davies revived the historic vineyards and cellars in 1965. Today, their son Hugh, continues their mission. Blend of 57% Chardonnayand 43% Pinot Noir, pale straw color with aromas of stone fruits, yeast and citrus notes. Nice sparkler with ripe apple, peach and pear flavors, fine mousse with tiny bubbles. Tangy acidity on a long finish ending with a spicy yeast character. Nice! — 2 years ago

9.0

2013 is the last vintage of this single vineyard bottling.
Lovely bouquet of raspberry, cherry cola, steep red tea, licorice, mushroom, and light baking spice. Medium body and acidity. A bit leaner than I expected on the palate. Good texture. Resolved tannins.

Domaine Clavel

Copa Santa Coteaux du Languedoc Syrah Blend 1993

Fascinating old Syrah from the Languedoc (label says 100% Syrah, 13.0 ABV), purchased on release, meaty, smoky, clean, balanced, this has held up amazingly well, medium-long finish, a Jeffrey Davies import from his early days of bringing in Languedoc wines (a most excellent portfolio back in the 1990s)!! — 5 years ago

Laurent-Perrier

La Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend

9.1

I actually enjoy this more than the technical score I give it...helps the price point is around $35.

Need to save some of the Davies Estates Chardonnay for more Harbison tomorrow night.

The Laurent Perrier La Cuvée with carry us through the rest of the cheese course. Picks up the dry Lattebusche Piave Vecchio white cheese better than the Davis Estate Chardonnay, as it should! Gives the night both side one & side two of our cheese LP.

I will let my previous notes stand.

Nobles Vineyards Pinot Noir 2013

9.4

This is the last of three horizontal single-vineyard bottlings from the 2013 vintage, and undoubtedly the finest of the trio— the other two sourced from Anderson Valley.

Still remarkably fresh, it offers an alluring mix of red and black fruits, layered with subtle floral notes. The palate shows impressive depth and precision, carried by fine acidity and a silky, seamless texture. Expressive and elegant, it should have at least another 5 years of drinking window.

Davies Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Dark garnet color with nose of oak, wet earth and dark red/black fruit. A bit tannic & acidic at first taste but with some air and a touch of warmth above cellar temp it really smoothed out the tannins but still on acidic side. Fairly dry with background of black cherry and plum. — 5 years ago

Osoyoos Larose

Le Grand Vin Okanagan Valley Merlot Blend 2016

The Killers release a new album a couple weeks ago, and named one of the tracks after this wine: My God.

Blueberries. Cherry. Cigars... and not the cheap ones: Cubans.

Every sip lingers nearly 10 minutes... it’s huge. I can only imagine what this will taste like in another 10 years.

Renteria 360 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

18 Davies Renteria single vineyard was solid. Probably opened too early, but a beautiful nose of cherry cola, vanilla and a bit of black tea. Not as much depth on the palate, but it’s warming up and the finish is growing in the second glass. Been consistently impressed with Davies. — 4 years ago
