This was well-made, but I feel that the fruit just wasn’t rich enough to take advantage of what Merlo was supposed to do in that micro climate — 6 months ago
Fresh Syrah Merlot. — 3 years ago
After a little “unfurling”, this nicely concentrated 50% Merlot gem from Long Island legends McCall is elegant to say the least. Mouthfeel is full & silky and the finish is decent but not voluptuous. Dark fruits and a small dusting of herbs from from the shaker give this a little more than one dimension of attack. Very good, but not great. Oak is balanced and integrated acid could give this another 6-10 sold years before declining — 5 years ago
A really nice Pinot Noir. Smooth and crisp with a hint of cherries. As good as any PN anywhere. — 8 years ago
Officially the producer that I am completely guilty of overlooking way too often. @Robert McCall shared this & inadvertently contributed to my drink more American Pinot effort. Aromatically, it defies description and is a case study in balance on the palate. Tannins are ever so silky, and accentuate the fresh bing cherry notes wonderfully. Excellent. — 9 years ago

This is fantastic. So well balanced. Starts very tart with lychee going into stone fruit and melon, but then it comes back to citrus acidity with a good complex finish. I loved it. — 7 days ago
Private label made by Louisa Hargrave with her daughter and son as a sentimental project. Never offered commercially. McCall Merlot fruit made at Lenz. Extremely fresh raspberry. Goosebumps. — 3 years ago
I have not historically been a fan of NY state wines but a recent trip to the north fork of Long Island showed me the dramatic improvement of quality over the years. This Chardonnay has such purity of fruit with bursting apple and just a little oak. McCalls wines are stellar and I recommend a trip to their tasting room if you are in the area. You cannot buy their wines at stores with such low production. This one is only 125 cases folks!!! Great proof that Chardonnay can thrive in NY state! — 5 years ago
Notes of black cherry and graphite. I even get a bit of saltiness. A great balance of acidity and long tannins. This is a great find. — 8 years ago

2014 Reserve Merlot. Cutchogue NY. Dense and balanced. 2014 was a standout year for LI merlot and this puts an exclamation point on it. Fresh black berries, a hint of mint, and a slightly herbal finish. Well balanced and aging beautifully. Pretty close to it’s peak. — 3 months ago
Cool vintage but still plenty of character. — 3 years ago
Incredibly complex structured wine coming out of one of my favorite producers on Long Island. You won’t find it in stores but definitely worth trying if you make it out there. Typically a grape that is blended with others, this one stands on its own. — 4 years ago

Crisp on the front with berries and bright acidity. Lovely. — 9 years ago
Initial aromas of red fruit, strawberry, cherry with nuances of earth and forest floor. After an hour in the decanter, tertiary aromas took over with savory complexity. Lovely palate with smooth tannins and spice on the finish. More France than New York! — 10 years ago

I liked this again. Good fruit but also some herbal qualities and a hint of oak, but very well balanced. This felt new world with a nod to loire. — 7 days ago
