Vignobles Thévenet & Fils

Domaine de La Bongran Cuvée Botrytis Mâcon Villages 2006

One of the most peculiar situation in Burgundy
In the producer's area rhe grapes are full of nobel rot(botrytis as stated on the label) and you can feel that very much in the wine with the dry apricot scent and flavour
The wine was in the cellar for a while and once opened it took very little to express its best
Amazing wine, i must get more of their wines but prices have gone sky rocketing
Never-ending aftertaste, i can still feel it the morning after

Montes

Purple Angel Colchagua Valley Carménère Petit Verdot 2019

Finally! Trying the revered Montes Purple Angel for the first time. Can’t stress this enough: must, must, decant or aerate in order to suppress the green bell pepper note, especially on this young vintage. After that, the wine is pretty decadent with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, a peculiar cedar note, and a slight balancing herbal tone. The finish is lengthy, structured with round and persist tannins. Cheers. — 3 years ago

Podere Pradarolo

Vej Bianco Antico Malvasia di Candia 2018

One of the most peculiar natural wines I’ve tried. It’s a bit much for more than one glass. I’d share this with a group. — 7 years ago

Amavi Cellars

Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2015

I am always eager to uncork a high end Washington Syrah! 😺🍷 I had been cellaring this bottle, the “last man standing” from my visit to the winery a few years back. This bottle did not disappoint. It is full of the rich plum fruits layered over that body so peculiar to Washington Syrah, this sort of pleasant mushroom tinge. I realize that may not sound palatable, but once tasted, it really lights up that “eureka!” center of the oenophile brain; imagine your first tastee if the Rutherford Dust tannic structure. Amaviis among my favorite Walla Walla wineries, and this Syrah is perfect for sipping with honored guests or old friends 😼 — 7 years ago

Schlossgut Diel

Riesling 1997

Tom Elliot
9.3

Full and peculiar captivating aromatics. I very rarely get vegetal aromas from Riesling but this one is loaded with them. First and foremost, ripe green bell peppers. On the palate it’s all upfront, delicious, yellow fruits and late summer sunshine. Second comes the flint and slate propelling the long, satisfying finish. — 7 months ago

Suckfizzle Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Most southern vineyard in Margaret River
Great intensity on the nose
Peculiar is the the nori seaweedy parfume and flavour
On the palate is elegant, mouth filling, but never overpowered. The tannin is a piece of art, absolutely silky. And it is very persistent too

Le Mistral Vineyards

Monterey County Red Rhone Blend 2002

Twenty one year old red Rhône blend from Monterey County, 56% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 7% Carignane, 3% Petite Syrah, and 2% Alicante Bouchet. Pale ruby. Red currant, plum, black cherry, pepper, game and dusty tobacco on the nose. The palate starts out weaker and less complex than the nose but calibrates after a couple of hours. It is dry, with medium acidity, dialed down alcohol, medium tannins, medium body, pronounced flavours of red fruits, plum and spice, some dark chocolate, a peculiar short earthy gamy finish. I would love to try this with Texas Style Brisket. — 3 years ago

Domaine Macle

Côtes du Jura Chardonnay Savagnin 2016

Very peculiar wine typical of Cote du Jura from Chardonnay and Savagnin grapes. Yellow straw color with amber undertone, it is quite complex both on the nose and the palate. Smell of walnut and quince and spices the taste is full with balanced acidity. Really loved it. — 4 years ago

Lambert de Seyssel

Royal Seyssel Grand Cru Régional Altesse Molette 2013

Felt like a justifiable extravagance during quarantine. Surprisingly aggressive mousse: bubbles were audible and hit the back of my tongue like pop rocks. Austere but pretty, like an early spring day, when it’s sunny but still too cool to ditch the winter coat and when some trees are blossoming but most are still bare. Aromatics: brioche, orchard fruit & blossoms (underripe apple, pear), early spring wild flowers, a touch of something tropical (passion fruit?). Flavors: baked apple, buttery notes quickly give way to alpine snow melt and reverberating, enamel-stripping acidity. A peculiar, but perfect date for Easter brunch. — 6 years ago

Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía 2017

Dark and deep purple but medium bodied. Mencia blended with Bastardo and Garnacha Tintorera. Floral and bright but with good drying tannins, red berries, blackberry, grapey (!), bitter cocoa, ink, mineral, some anise. A little peculiar and I like it. From Flatiron Wines, Feb. 2019 NY Times 20 under $20 list. — 7 years ago

Les Lys Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2010

“Les Lys” is one of the eight climats within Vaillons but it’s peculiar in terms of its exposure and the soil contains a bit more clay. The wines are equally unique expressions and typically long lived. This bottle is no exception.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a hour. The 2010 “Les Lys” pours a bright yellow color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with explosive notes of tart and ripe orchard and tropical fruits: green apple, starfruit, passion fruit; a mixed bag of citrus with lemon, lime and even some tangerine. There’s white flowers, a whiff of brioche and racy minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. It has been a few years since I last had the 2010 and it’s no less stunning. Drink now through 2035+

Château Laville Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2005

Tainted nose. Mushroomey.
In the palate much better. Creamy and complex.
Still..: no score.

After a few hours, the murky, peculiar aromas in the nose blew off and the bouquet became wonderfully fresh and pure.
So…, next bottle: give it several hours of decanter time!

Masseria Falvo

Pircoca Riesling 2018

@Delectable Wine the wine is 65% guarnaccia and rest split between malvasia bianca, moscato, riesling and traminer
Pircoca is the dialectal word for peach, actually the local variety i should say
It goes without saying the wine smells and tastes of peach, it's almondy, it has a citrussy apple too
But peculiar is its mineral side, quite metallic and salty. Not completely dry, but quite in balance with the mineral, you sort of can't feel the sweetness
It plays a song with not to many loud notes, but in the end it is interesting and queffable
Winery to explore on the Calabrian side of the Mount Pollino that dates back to 1727, it needs a visit

— 5 years ago

Domaine François Cotat

Les Culs de Beaujeu Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Vintage 2009 / Sunday lunch in the garden. I love September with these sunny days. Opened the bottle yesterday, floral tones in smell. A bit buxus. And a peculiar - not typical for sauvignon - honey impression. Today the wine opened up: beautiful jasmin smell, buttery. Vibrant acidity and surprisingly powerful. The floral smell remains. And a fine bitter in aftertaste. This bottle is among the finest Loire has to offer. / Paired with warm Liege Salad (salade Liégeoise, pommes de terre, haricots verts, bacon, vinaigrette). — 7 years ago

Klein Constantia

Estate Red Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

This wine is somewhat peculiar for a South African wine, it does have a lot of similarities to others. This wine has a lot of blackberry and black cherry influence, yet also maintaining the clove type of notes that I have come to find in a lot of these wines. This wine pour is rather dark into the glass, with a nose of floral perfume and blank teary. The palate is mostly dominated by black cherry, but enough clove enters into the equation to make it interesting. The middle of this wine goes slightly to a bacon fat sort of presentation. Finishes still rather tannic, therefore I think I'm going to let the other bottles sit for one or two years. — 8 years ago
