Nose is a bit woody but also clear and precise. Cherry pit, red cherry flesh. Brambley raspberries. Palate has great concentration and such tiny berry fruit intensity. Black cherry and black cherry pastille. Superb purity and great cut and flavor delineation. A little better than a recent 17 Robardelle. Sappy and fresh. Just lovely stuff. These need really 24 hours to become more elegant and expressive but very very good now with a 45 minute splash decant. — 5 years ago

Easy drinking, refreshing, good porch drinking summer wine — 5 years ago
Been a few years and this is drinking so well now but no rush at all. Nose is sour cherry and mid season cherry and lovely earthy minerals. Very fragrant and a hint of confection. Palate is sleek and juicy and very refined. It is a bit short but air will lengthen it I think. Juicy and elegant airy lovely purity and balance. Awesome depth and grainy, elegant tannins. Needs air to go higher. Let’s see what happens.
9.4 to 9.5 overnight. Juicy and elegant and so finessed. — 4 years ago
Really pretty and held up well with air. Silky and delicate. Fruit almost entirely resolved. Moss or mushroom. Really impressive balance. Would love to drink more old Burgundy but I just can’t afford it. — 4 years ago
Nose is steely, mineral and refined. Apple skins, lime zest. Very very mineral as St. Romain tends to be. Palate is terrific. Juicy, super pure and very concentrated with outstanding clarity and freshness. Best version yet. Lovely balance. Very complex and so delicious. This is a great wine. So chewy on the finish. Green fruits all the way. — 5 years ago
One of my favorite Volnays. Gorgeous, pungent aromas, red cherry galore, hint of spicey oak, floral, earth and mineral. Really wide open aromatically. Layered and just fantastically complex. Palate is super pure and so juicy with wonderful silken sweet tannins and a zen like texture. So good. Wonderful medium bodied yet substantial wine with incredible depth and purity. Truly wonderful. Awesome laser like clarity on the cherry fruit. Super long finish. — 5 years ago

Nose has confectionary up the wazoo. Cherries dropped in a vat of cherry dust. Lovely stoney background and serious lift. Really powdery and refined. Sure it will open more. Palate is lush, sweet and decadent. Loads of tiny berry sweet cherry fruit and likely definition and clarity. Right as to be expected and will improve with air. Very fresh with extremely fine tannins and length. Great acidity. This is a 20+ year wine no doubt. — 4 years ago

Super stoney nose with black cherry, black cherry compote, mineral and herbs. Really wonderful, fresh and complex. Mashed flowers. Stunningly deep and layered. Palate is deep, elegant and wonderfully finesse driven. Sappy and pure but so light on its feet. Wonderful palate that is at once silky and also structured and deep. Amazingly sweet black and dark red cherries. Long finish. Needs to open but all there. — 5 years ago
A very interesting wine. A very difficult vintage that the winemaker addressed with stupid low yields. If you love wine, a great wine to drink to see how a very good winemaker handled a rough year in non elite terroir. His 1er crus were sick in 17.
Nose is purplish. Dark. Swirling. Sexy. But a bit Brutish but in a sexy way.
Palate is dark fruit. Very very dense for a wine at this level. Very. The fruit outweighs the acidity although it’s not stewy at present.
I’d drink this now. It might peak in 6-12 months. But I have no idea. My gut is the far side of the mountain is steep. But man this is an effing fun drink today. If you have a bunch of save one for a few years just to see what happens. Science baby.

Needs an hour decant.
Nose : faded dried lilacs. A beautiful old woman selling books in the market. Profound poetry written on faded ink and read from withered pages. A tinge of earth.
Palate: so silky. Fleeting but in a persistent way. Nothing obvious or dramatic. Balance. An experience more than an event.
For me, a lover who jilted me. But still a love I remember fondly.
Burgundy. This could only be burgundy.
