Les Picasses Chinon Cabernet Franc 2019

Wow. A richer, darker, and more concentrated Picasses than I’ve had in some time. Oak is also a bit more gratuitous than I’m used to for this wine. Blackberries, currant, moss, anise. This can go the distance, but definitely a bit hot. Still one of my favorite wines in the world for consistent quality to price ratio and age-ability. — 10 months ago

Pago de los Capellanes

Tinto Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend

A safe bet for gifts on this price range , excellent benefit cost ratio. — 5 years ago

Philippe Colin

La Maltroie Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Decent mid-weight white burgundy, but not all that exciting. Clean, crisp, nicely balanced but with absolutely no “wow”. You have to question the price/quality ratio with wines of this type. Kiss of death is almost no sense of “terroir” or place—- just another dry white! — 7 years ago

Scharffenberger

Brut Excellence Mendocino County Sparkling Wine

Roederer Estate and Scharffenberger both call Anderson Valley home and together yield some of California’s most consistently delicious and affordable sparkling wines. Of the couple, Scharffenberger vinifies rounder, more lush wines. Flavors of ripe pear skin, white rose, and baked apple find their footing against a backdrop of yeast, cheese rind, and patisserie in the image of Champagne. The perfect wedding reception wine or Tuesday night sparkler for its tremendous quality to cost ratio. — 8 years ago

Château Redortier

Beaumes-de-Venise Red Rhone Blend 2020

AEL
9.0

I think this punches way above it's weight. Soft, full feel to it, with a doughy, almost grainy note under the ripe fruit. Spicy, slightly alcoholic on the tongue. Great cost/benefit ratio. — 2 years ago

La Rosine Syrah 2020

Between Notes of red and black fruits, spices and generous floral notes. Evocation of violet, pepper, apricot (viognier contribution). Balance and charming in the style of the beautiful expressions of a Crozes Hermitage. Very beautiful Syrah typical of the Rhone-Nord. Unfailing price/pleasure ratio.

Rapport prix/plaisir infaillible.

Qvinterra trocken Riesling 2018

Aromatic, mineral, spicy with ripe, honeyed apricots plus a fistful of dried, salty herbs. Precise & pure in the palate with brilliant, juicy acidity, just the right amount of fruit and beautiful minerality.
Brilliant stuff for 12€. Unbeatable price/quality ratio.

Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Very drinkable for a young OR Pinot Noir. Soft, mellow tannins match harmoniously with notes of ripe black cherries, dusty leaves, and dried mushrooms. Rustic, elegant expression with a strong sense of place. Loved the wines I’ve tried so far from Eola-Amity Hills and this one is no exception. A great wine from Anthony King, perfect for NYE. — 7 years ago

Chono

Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Rating on quality/price ratio. Tastes like a northern burgundy mixed with a northern Rhône. cherry cola, smoked meat, hard cheese, olive brine. 100% my style, but not for everyone. I could drink this everyday. — 9 years ago

Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2023

Nice and round. Silky and powerful at the same time. Nice and pleasant. Top p/q ratio. — 2 years ago

Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

La Côte de lAnge is not a top Ch. Neuf de P label. But it is a quality label of of the second tier that represents a good quality to price ratio. One would think that 2010 would be a high point, and maybe it is. But even 2010 is not a superior effort. Very intense, yet undefined, purple fruit and lots of menthol. It’s a pleasant and even intense drink. Nothing wrong. But not the highest expression of the terroir. — 5 years ago

Château Bastor-Lamontagne

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2015

Excellent price-quality ratio! Delicious, sweet and fresh at the same time. Try with Asian food for example. Matches perfectly with Brie or Camembert. — 8 years ago

Kinero

Alice Grenache Blanc 2014

Absolutely fantastic. This is a great example of a white wine that needs a few years in the cellar before it really sings. Easily compares with the grenache blancs of Kris Curran, who is the other great producer of this varietal in California. And given the price point of Anthony Yount’s wines - no better quality/price ratio anywhere for a rhone-esque white. Run - don’t walk - to his website (Kinero Cellars). Fantastic. — 8 years ago

Fattoria Corzano e Paterno

Terre di Corzano Chianti Sangiovese Blend

Beats many if not most Chianti Classico hands down. We did a blind tasting of 11 2015 Tuscan wines, 10 well know Chianti Classicos and this came out in front. Quality price ratio is fantastic. — 9 years ago
