Saint-Joseph Roussanne 2020

2020 vintage. Last tasted 4.10.24 (9.3) and 9.4.24 (9.3). Acidity precipitously dropping and gaining serious weight. Golden and citrusy. 12.03.25. — 13 days ago

Nice but perhaps not at the level I was hoping. Quite fruit forward with lots of nice dark fruit with the requisite olive notes etc. Tannins and acid both less than expected. Nice pairing with chicken roasted with feta and olives. — 9 months ago

I’m a bubbles nerd, and even with that in mind, the color profile here was crazy! I brought this to accompany some TX brisket (dynamite pairing).

100% Pinot noir; 72hrs on the skins; 1g/l dosage; disgorged March ‘22; back label says (in French) to open 20mins in advance

At first pour it reminded me of some Lambrusco's I’ve had…deep red/purple! While there is a powerful core of fruit here, it is packaged nicely and not too extreme (though the color wants to take you there). Had a small pour right at pop to calibrate and then (impatiently) waited 20mins…slightly more expressive and the fruit came to the front (cran-raspberry, underripe blueberries) with herbal and floral notes at the finish. The limited dosage seemed appropriate as the texture was nice with good length and nothing was austere or bracing. Definitely has a “crunchy” profile. If poured in a black glass, rosé bubbles would be the call but you would never guess the color would be what it is. Fun.

olive and dark cherry, gamey and ripe, so serene and zen, nuanced beyond belief, crystalline purity and superb structure and density, amazing purity and length. inner mouth aromas. sappy and super dense with insane structures. Length is insane. — 2 years ago

Painfully young, but that old vine syrah and granite density make it hard to resist. Dark, angry, pure granitic bite on the back half, needs some time, but the ripeness and warming fruit is coaxed out with air. I see a lot of potential here. — 5 years ago

Just a sick sick wine. Nose is the most intense olive. Black, green, tapenade. Just wow. Some blackberry fruit and inane mintiness. Such deepness. So much depth and umami. So many unique aromas that I can’t quite identify. What a palate. Ripe, linear and so juicy. Balanced and pure with flavors of blackberry and olive. Really juicy and fresh. One of the richer 21’s. Having said that the energy is undeniable. This needs air but man the bones are there. So juicy and sleek today. Like an oil slick on the palate but so energetic. Long finish. 9.5 to 9.6 overnight. Really nice granite today. — 8 months ago

Love their stuff. Still have a case of 2021 St. Joseph blanc that hasn't made it onto the list yet.
