Hundsrück Großes Gewächs Spätburgunder 2013

Wow, an absolutely glorious btl of wine. On the.nose: soft cola, blueberry, wild strawberry, a hint of young coconut, fantastic spice, freshly cut savory herbs...stunning nose. On the palate: fantastic acidity, crushed herbs, wild strawberry, crushed seeds, spice...soft tannin on the fantastically elegant finish. Young, but so much complexity and elegance. Unbelievably good. — 5 years ago

Recis Spätburgunder 2011

Like a Burgh - no difference. Franken Pinot (FP). Schlepped this all the way from this super remote winery my 2nd bottle. Stumbled onto this wine because Jancis Robinson recommended this (after all she used to be the Sommelier of the Queen of England). Suitcase import. 13.5% world class - really. Roses on the nose. In the glass faint cherries, blackberries, elderberry (just bought a plant we used to make jam), red currants. Back palate hard to define Za'atar (the plant) - Screw Cap (a strange choice for such quality juice). I know this wine is inaccessible for most folks on this website - sorry. But Franken is a very interesting wine region. The soil is by the way limestone - so it is classic for Pinot. I walked the vineyards - very off the beaten path - even for Germany. — 2 months ago

Pyramide Purus Riesling 2019

Natty for sure. Cloudy medium yellow. Nose of bruised apple. Palate apple, white fruit, marmalade and stone. Acid background a bit intrusive. Interesting stuff but pvr is off. — 4 years ago

Centgrafenberg Großes Gewächs Spätburgunder 2017

Medium light garnet , wide garnet rim . Quite open from the off , red cherry , rose , red currant , raspberry , a touch of smoky oak, after a while a little deeper fruit . On the palate this has quite sweet strawberry , raspberry , red currant but with good acidity , rounded on the palate but with quite gritty tannins , with saline hints on the spiced cherry tinged finish . This is still pretty young and needs a little more time , maybe 2-4 more years , and will last a further 5-8. — 3 months ago

Lovely German Pinot Noir. Almost 20 years old but still bright and fresh. Some tertiary aromas kn the nose, cola and sour cherry on the palate. Finesse. — 2 years ago

Retzstadt Silvaner

Nice fruity (green apples) in this vintage.
Herby fresh & mineral.
Linear, steely, firm on the palate - with a splash of green apple juice and herby characters. Plus the rocky minerality and a saline finish. So food friendly.
