One of my all time favourites.
Last one of 2021 left in the collection. Fell in love with this wine in 2022 during a dinner at La Colombe. Great characterful wine from the west coast. You can taste it’s origin in the briny/kelp like taste with a bit of stone fruit, chamomille/jasmine and a touch of fennel/anise. Always a bit lower on the alcoho and acidityl, which makes it a great early drinker. Can’t wait to try the 2024 with 99 points. — 8 months ago
Bright, red berry & floral driven. Burst of florals on the nose. Juicy cranberry on the palate. Strawberry, raspberry & red cherry. Some of the jerky, meaty notes which come through mid-end of palate which is the only key identifier for Pinotage. Pop of juniper berry herbaceous freshness on finish. Helped by a long decant but would benefit with some further aging. — 3 years ago
bright red fruit, floral, gripping tannins, earthiness and leather. excellent — 7 years ago
This zin is so different from the other offerings. Mountain fruit, cab like it it's complexity and density.
Dusi 2016 was great, all the components were there.
Sadie upton 2016 had some tightness and even cinnamon. The 2015 was a big red fruited wine with tannin and acidity. Big mid palate.
The whitney tennessee was tad more elegant and less zin jam. Dogtown 15 was the jammiest of the wines I had today. Still good but more in your face. Rinaldi was rustic and solid. 2015 old vines is the value of the day. Tasting very nice right now, maybe the best of them all with it's viscosity and sweet fruit. — 8 years ago
Excellent wine. Rich and pleasant mouth-feel. Deep red fruit and balanced oak. Great with our Moroccan spiced roasted lamb. — 9 months ago
We were inspired to learn more about this producer – David & Nadia Sadie – a husband and wife team! 💕💕@davidandnadia
Their portfolio of delicious wines hails from the Swartland District of South Africa, often featuring Southern Rhône varieties, which are well-adapted to the sun-drenched, arid climate of Swartland. 🇿🇦 The climate naturally supports their dry and organic farming practices, both considered factors in growing quality fruit (e.g., lower yields, more concentrated berries), while also being environmentally conscientious. 🍇
This particular wine – Elpidios 2019 – is made with a blend of 38% Grenache Noir, 36% Syrah, 10% Pinotage, 9% Carignan & 7% Cinsault. Not only is it a blend of varieties, but also a blend of fermentation and maturation techniques, using some vessels made of concrete, others made of neutral oak (variable sizes), offering balance, depth, and texture (not oakiness). 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
In the winery, they prefer a lower intervention approach with all of these aforementioned choices designed to promote an unadulterated, pure expression from the vineyard sites and soil types that bore their fruit.🌱🌱
Before serving, we gave this medium-bodied, ruby-hued wine a slight chill; as it warms up, layered aromas and flavors emerge from the glass offering notes of ripe black cherry, blackberry bramble, boysenberry, raspberry, red plum, red cherry, rose, black licorice, anise seed, clove, cardamom, leather, delicate peppery and cured meat, next to wet earth. 🍷🍷
This wine gracefully balances savory and sweet characteristics, with refreshing acidity that adds lift and creates tension with the juicy, ripe fruit notes.💯💯
David & Nadia, Elpidios, Swartland (2019). ABV 14%.
Cheers to wines that offer a bridge to another place and time.
Thanks again to @dutch_wine_apprentice for first introducing us to this producer. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🇿🇦🇿🇦

South Africa throwback. Very good. — 9 months ago
Our last lunch in Priorat at a little restaurant in Falset, and no formal notes but keen to try again. Interestingly this winery was started by Dominik Huber and the irrepressible Eben Sadie of South African Syrah fame. This was a typical rich Priorat blend of mainly Grenache with Carignan. Full bodied and savoury with black fruits and plenty of liquorice — 4 years ago
