Slightly deeper appearance , medium garnet with a narrower bricking / garnet rim . More complexity on the nose compared to the 78 , more tobacco , dusty cedar and a mix of degraded blackcurrant and redcurrant , grafite . Good fruit on the palate still , that mix and red and dark fruits , grafite and tobacco touches . More presence and persistence on the finish than the 78 . Balanced acidity , slightly grainy quite dry tannins . Good to drink now and over the next few years , like the 78 not going to improve — 3 years ago

Brooke’s gift from her 40th Birthday!
Small, but nice poof upon opening. Label is totally crumbling. Lovely dark gold color. Nose is complex with brioche, honey, caramel, butter, and butterscotch. Mix of Champagne and Sauternes. Wine is crisp with some nice sweetness. Very deep with a medium plus finish.
This would easily score 100, but there is a metallic, fishy funk aftertaste that is strange and unappealing. Other than that this is absolutely amazing for a ‘79!!! — 6 years ago

Truly under appreciated vintage. Retains a fruit forward nose - shockingly ripe blackberry with a caramel and cocoa nib finish. — 10 months ago
Paler colour than the 76 , medium old gold colour . Quite a lot of bubbles still. This shows much more linear and mineral , quite chalky on the nose and palate but has enough fresh lemon tinged fruits to cover the bones . This is fresher and younger on the palate than the 76 . Long more focused on the finish, higher acidity . This is perfect now and over the next 5-10 years I would imagine . Very much alive and vivid for a Champagne of this age. — 2 years ago
Thought this would be dead but the cork held up! About 30 minutes of pleasure than quickly faded and ox’ed in the glass. Oh well. Dried sour cherry, tobacco, graphite, potting soil, green peppercorn, porcini mushrooms, cigar ash, worn leather. Light, vibrant acid. — 3 years ago
Hieno colheita. ❤ — 5 years ago
1979 held ip super well after travelling from France to the US then to Germany for the uncorking. Notes of dark cocoa, deep plum, cherry, saddle leather — 7 years ago
Quite green, but I don’t hate that. — 3 years ago
A wow of a wine. The nose is spectacular. Sour cherry, dark gamey undertow, blood, dried herbs, and that brightening kick of viognier. Tastes age appropriate with more soft forest floor, oak subsumed, more savory than sweet. Glorious stuff but not OTT in any way. A super well-stored and fresh bottle. Very long. Over a couple of hours it lost intensity and the fruit dimmed a bit. Great. — 4 years ago
High alcohol comes through. Great with chocolate. Rich, caramelly, high viscosity. Perfect with bouche de Noel Giger read chocolate cake. — 6 years ago

Oldest wine served at “From the Cellar.” Paired with the dish of event.
I met Tim who was pouring initially. He is the main person behind the VC group that bought the property and three others out of BK in 1999. We all know what happened the next yr with the Glass Fires. Very unfortunate coupled w/ bad timing.
The hope to have all the restoration worked completed by 2030. They have already started replanting the vineyards that were consumed in the fire. Priority number one as it is roughly 7 yrs before you get usable fruit for quality wines.
He brought a 3L of the 79. Mags of 90, 96, 97, 05 & 06 to the event.
