Pop and pour. A wondrous medium gold color. On the nose: Asian pear, oyster shells, lemon, floral, toasted nuts. Taste: great creamy-chalky mouthfeel with lemon, minerals, tart green apple, honey, cider. YUM! Still delicious at 27 years. — 3 years ago

Delectable this is the Magpie Hill Reserve Shiraz not offered in your choices. Dukes better known for their award winning Rieslings but the Porongorup district of Western Australia also produces lovely spicy peppery meaty Shiraz with notes of liquorice, herbs and charcuterie. This is the first of 6 bottles bought at the Cellar Door a few years ago. Contract winemaking by the talented Rob Diletti from neighbouring Castle Rock Estate. Great value at only $31 AUD for a wine of this quality. Had another bottle 37 weeks later on the 21st December 2024 with consistent notes. Still can’t believe what great value this Shiraz is. — 4 years ago
Nice cider. Dry funk. From apples grown 20 min North. — 5 years ago
Water white in colour. Aromas of Lime Juice, Citrus Peel, Talc and Minerals. On the palate a riot of Lime Juice and Citric Acid of profound intensity finishing bone dry. I can see why James Halliday gave this Riesling 98 points and his Australian Riesling of 2019 because of its sheer purity, power and intensity and its ability to live for 20 years and to keep developing. Sold Out everywhere except for 4 x 6 packs at the Cellar Door of which I bought a 6 pack. Classic Porongorup Riesling. Made for Dukes by Rob Diletti of Castle Rock Estate who I had the pleasure of meeting 2 days ago at his winery for a tasting. — 7 years ago
This was tons of fun to try to pair, and to blend with!! What a joy to have this made and available so locally. — 7 years ago
White, not red. Lemon, apple cider, sea shells on the nose. Dry bubbles. Happy summer! — a year ago
Bought at the winery in 2021 just as things started to lift for COVID, and we brought our dog Murph along. This has sat for a bit, with three sediment coating the inside of the bottle, and is starting to show some age, with a pale red, somewhat fig color, with amber notes and bricking to the edges. The nose is tart, with more hints of fig, iron/blood, and a little iodine, with some softer fig newton and dark plum notes to finish. The palate is still acidic, with a little smoke or charcoal, super ripe strawberries, star anise, grapefruit, butterscotch, some iodine or apple cider vinegar, grandma’s fruit chew gummies, some iron and age elements of amber and velvet present at the finish. Plum jerkum!!! So much unfiltered stone fruit in here. Get some next time you’re in Red Hook! Reminds of Cab Franc, or maybe @Sam Shepard’s Cab Franc-inflected piss after a few glasses. — 5 years ago

Tart and fresh and complex, cleaner than a Normandy with much of the acidity and ripe fruit. — 7 years ago

Rich, delicious, and a delight with food. Baking spices on the nose, it is suggestive of apple cider. — 8 years ago
At first it reminded me of a Normandy craft cider. Then I poured some in my glass and the colour struck me. It's orangey and clearly turbid. Not your casual chardonnay Sunday evening pour. The nose is verrrryyy complex, pear, apple, honey, elderflower, white pepper, some slight apricot touch and some yeasty notes too (?). The palate is great too, good acid drive, pear and apple, honey, good width, soft mouthfeel that turns into a tannic wall in the rear that caresses the tongue before powering a multi-layered finish with honey, apricot, apple, pear, a savoury, salty touch. Wow this is wild. It's absolutely not the same wine nor the same tastes and varietals but this reminds to some extent of Joly's wines from la Coulée de Serrant. Extremist in the approach somehow. These guys will die on that hill with their ideas. — 2 years ago

Dark cherry, stringent, hints of barnyard, rust and earth, complex Sangiovese…..yum! What else can I say. Assisi. What a wonderful place to visit. We walked up to the castle one day and discovered Aperol Spritz on a hot day. The next day we walked down the hill to this wonderful family winery Tili where we discovered this wine. — 3 years ago

Funky, Cider, Better warmer — 6 years ago
Tasty dry complex organic Vermont hard cyder w/ a" y "to distinguish it from the others. +So the children don't consume. From an orchard with 89 different varieties of apples! Highly recommended! — 7 years ago
Has been 2.5 years since I've visited this one. Still a lot of youthful qualities to it. Still almost a bracing acidity up front but the fruit profile shines through. Tart cherry blossoms, raspberry cola, dirty red flower. Middle of this one kind of gains a tangerine rind and a tart cherry finish. Went exceptionally well with pork chops but not so much the salad with the cider vinegar dressing. Solid 92 though. I don't think this one is at the top of the hill yet but it's not far away. I'd wait another year IMO. — 7 years ago

So funky. Almost like a cider. Orange blossom, jasmine, earl grey tea, dried lemon, sweet peach, underripe pear and some tart apple. Maybe apricot. It’s bonkers complex but definitely not for everyone. — 7 months ago
