Gabriel Meffre

Saint-Vincent Côtes-du-Rhône White Rhone Blend 2024

Gabriel Meffre “Saint-Vincent” Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2024, Rhône Valley, France 🇫🇷

Overview
A classic Southern Rhône white blend that leans casual and food-oriented rather than flashy or intensely aromatic, and this cuvée is typically a blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, and Clairette. The result is a smooth, lightly stony, and subtly textured white that feels very comfortable at the table.

Aromas & Flavors
Soft white peach, pear, yellow apple, and delicate white floral tones open gently in the glass. Subtle hints of wet stone, citrus peel, and light herbal nuances emerge underneath, keeping the wine grounded and balanced rather than overtly fruity.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with a smooth and approachable texture. There is a gentle tension toward the back palate that adds freshness without becoming sharp. The finish remains subtle, soft, and savory-leaning.

Food Pairings
This is where the wine truly shines. Excellent with roasted chicken, creamy seafood dishes, cod in white wine sauce, grilled vegetables, herb-driven Mediterranean cuisine, or mild cheeses.

Verdict
A very honest and traditional Rhône white that prioritizes versatility and food compatibility over complexity. Not necessarily a “sit and analyze” sipping wine, but a dependable bottle that works beautifully at the dinner table.

Did You Know?
White Côtes-du-Rhône wines represent only a small percentage of total Rhône production, which is why many consumers associate the region almost entirely with reds despite the area producing some excellent traditional white blends.

🍷 Personal Pick
This feels like one of those understated French whites that quietly performs best with food. Casual, stony, smooth, and very easy to enjoy alongside a proper meal rather than on its own. Cheers!

Landmark Vineyards

Damaris Reserve Chardonnay 2022

The classic caramel/baking spice notes crop up on the nose but cut with fresh apple cider. The palate follows suit, bringing pear and citrus into the fold. The body is a medium-plus premise, and while the flavor profile verges on rich and the alcohol elevated, somehow, it all integrates into more than the sum of its parts. New bottle look, dependable, delicious taste! — 2 years ago

California Petite Sirah 2017

Affordable, dependable, easy to find. What’s not to like? Reminds me of the old Italian/American brands from the North Coast and Central Valley from the 1970s, cheap, good value, but this has better fruit. Purple-red, highly extracted pigment. Jammy and minty notes in nose with a hint of funk. Raspberry, cherry and spearmint flavors in mouth, tart berry-ish finish on initial pour. Caught somewhere with a limited selection of wines? This will save the rest of your day. Tannins emerge after 45 minutes, fruit flavors meld after 60. — 6 years ago

Sainte Céline Chablis Chardonnay 2024

Sainte Céline – Chablis – Chardonnay – 2024
Chablis AOC – Burgundy – France 🇫🇷

Overview
A value-driven Chablis crafted from estate parcels with an average vine age of around 30 years, emphasizing freshness, purity, and classic Chablis character. The 2024 vintage delivers exactly what Chablis lovers seek: clarity, tension, and terroir-driven precision without excess weight or oak influence.

Aromas & Flavors
Bright lemon zest, green apple, and white peach lead the nose, followed by subtle hints of oyster shell, crushed chalk, and wet stone. Clean citrus flavors dominate the palate, supported by saline minerality and a touch of fresh herbs.

Mouthfeel
Crisp, dry, and refreshing, with lively acidity and a lean, energetic frame. The texture is linear and precise, carrying freshness from entry through a snappy, mineral-driven finish.

Food Pairings
Oysters, clams, shrimp, ceviche, grilled white fish, sushi, goat cheese, or simple aperitif sipping. A natural partner for seafood-forward dishes.

Verdict
A reliable, classic Chablis that consistently delivers brightness, balance, and typicity. Zesty, clean, and effortlessly drinkable, this is Chablis that does the job beautifully and never disappoints.

Did You Know?
Chablis’ signature minerality comes from its Kimmeridgian limestone soils, rich in fossilized marine life, which give wines their unmistakable chalky and saline edge.

🍷 Personal Pick Highlight
A go-to, no-nonsense Chablis: crisp, dry, zesty, and flavorful. Affordable, dependable, and always satisfying, exactly what Chablis should be.

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. Here is a nice one from Sonoma.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, wood, cloves, vanilla, spices, espresso, chocolates, metals, green vegetables, light bell pepper and earth.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, bell pepper, green vegetables, coffee, chocolates, light earth, tobacco, beef jerky and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with firm tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a very nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Fruity and rich, with lots of bell pepper notes.

Still young and needs another few years in the bottle to mature properly. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows some tannins (60 minutes).

Fruit forward, tasty and good by itself or with food. Solid and dependable.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Marqués de Cáceres

Rioja Rosé Blend 2024

This dependable rosé is a rich, pink salmon color, with a mineral-laden nose featuring lemon, strawberry, and cherry aromas. The palate is dry, fruity and laced with minerals. A good level of acidity provides for excellent food pairing and a refreshing demeanor on its own. There’s a touch of orange peel on the finish.

The wine is a great chilled sipper, but also pairs well with spring salads, summer grilling, or paella, if you're up to it.
