Marcel Lapierre

Morgon Gamay 2015

Crunchy black cherries and all kinds of berries, roses and lilacs, distant notes of smoke, granite rocks and sous-bois funk. Wonderful acidity, slightly dusty at the end. Very harmonious stuff, good stuffing and structure, I’d say this is drinking beautifully now, yet has the backbone to survive, or even improve, for 5 years at least.

On day 2: fruit turns more serious - deeper, darker - and savory notes enter the spectrum. Acidity melts into the wine, as well. Yum..!

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Delectable Wine
9.5

Tasting the 1990 Léoville Las Cases just a few days after the 1989, it is clear which is the best vintage…this one. It has a sublime nose of melted black fruit, tar, cedar and bay leaf that shrugs off the heat of that summer better than most others. At 33 years of age, you could just lose yourself in these aromatics. The palate is clearly holding up well: beautifully defined and supple yet with typical Las-Cases backbone and depth. It builds magnificently in the glass toward a harmonious finish that reminds me of the 1985 in terms of its fleshiness. Wonderful. Tasted at the Lia's Wings/book dinner at Medlar restaurant. Decanted four hrs. Opened up. Soft and integrated. Wished for a little more backbone but hard to get with merlot and can franc. Beautiful, light wine. — 5 years ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Alion

Ribera Del Duero Tempranillo 2016

100% Tempranillo, about 12 mos in mostly new French oak. Deep Ruby, aromas of dark fruits, spice, floral and earthy oak. On the palate flavors of fresh blackberry & currants with tobacco, licorice and gentle bits of cedar. Tannins, are tight supporting the backbone of the wine, needs more bottle age, resist opening now. Well balance with acidity, full body, long finish ends with some fruit, spice, and earthy character. Nice! — 5 years ago
