Aux Malconsorts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2013

Opened some time prior to service; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with its notes of strawberry, raspberry, black cherry, rosemary, coniferous forest floor, minerals and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a profoundly sensual wine that is showing really well now and I would expect it to be thrilling for years to come. Drink now through 2048. — 3 days ago

Monts-Luisants Morey Saint-Denis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

9.4

Certainly not as rare as the Ponsot’s Clos des Monts Luisants, but as soon as I saw this on the wine list at reasonable price, I knew this was what I wanted to order.

The nose opens with lemon oil, white peach, crushed stones, and subtle hazelnut. The palate is supple yet lively, with vibrant acidity framing ripe orchard fruit and a cool, chalk-driven core. A faint floral note and gentle oak spice add complexity. Elegant with refined balance.

Aux Combottes Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2006

Dujac fans know how great their ‘06’s are, Jeremy Seysses’ first vintage in full control. Aux Combottes, surrounded by Grand Cru’s on all four sides, is terrific in 2006, now fully open and giving wafting an unmistakable Dujac perfume with elegant spice laced red berry fruit, cocoa and Gevrey earth. It’s liquid velvet on the palate, notably impressive for the vintage, with superb balance of fruit character, minerality and fine grained tannic structure. Terrific showing! — a month ago

@Conrad Green I think 2005 is hitting really well now; early in the long life this vintage will enjoy. It was a solar vintage after all.
