Les Casse-Têtes Meursault Chardonnay 2016

9.2

Decanted, opened up nicely over the hour plus. Lean and taut to start, with fruit sneaking around to the front more as it opened. Need to find some more to age (lots of luck). — 7 years ago

Les Meix-Chavaux Meursault Chardonnay 2012

Much better when colder than 55 Fahrenheit. Nice length and interesting spicy notes on the close. The oak is present but not overwhelming. — 11 years ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

Bring me some Gilles Verot head cheese and other Lyonnais delicacies. This meaty blue fruited stunner is gorgeous and goes on and on. I can see the Mauves neighborly comparisons. The first time I tried Gonon was at Bar Boulud. — 6 years ago

Plan de Dieu par Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2012

One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.

Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!

So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable?

Les Chanlins Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

This is almost everything. Or maybe because I’m sitting having this in Paris. Lovely in so many ways. Nuanced. Layered. Nice acidity. Lovely finish. More of this. — 7 years ago

Domaine Lafouge (Jean et Gilles Lafouge)

Les Boutonniers Auxey-Duresses Chardonnay 2014

Apricot, pear, strawberry. Slightly tropical (banana, coconut) Gentle roundness from malo fermentation. Would like to see more acid especially from this vintage (2014). Lower acid leads to the impression that it's watered down The comparison to Roulot is justified and I look forward to seeing more from this young producer. — 9 years ago

La Chapelle Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

This is a silkier, more elegant vintage of the Chapelle, at least relative to the 2010, which was really in my zone, as well as the 2009, which I found over-the-top, but in both cases I think there was more stuffing there than here. This would've shown better if I'd opened it with white meat or even fish or something else where a lightweight presence and loose-knit structure is called for. It's an excellent wine in that idiom but lacks some of the solidity and grip it has offered in other years. It's not imbalanced at all, and the trademark stony mineral flavors are still here, it's just a slimmer version of its usual self. — 11 years ago
