It’s been almost 2 years since my last bottle of this, and the cellaring has been beneficial. Powerful nose shows all sorts of animal and mineral notes. Some pungent tiny berries underneath. A little sponti funk note too. It explodes on the palate. Dense, mouthcoating flavors, but they’re almost electrocuted by the zingy acids on steroids. Loads of tiny, zingy, dark mountain berries. There’s a fair amount of tannin, but they’re very soft and pillowy. Well done. Will last and improve several more years. — 3 years ago
Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles.
A really nice Rhône white courtesy of the tandem François Villard and @Donald Patz . Floral notes of honeysuckle, lemon, sea salt and soft pineapple. Waxy profile that I tend to get with these Rhône whites, showing thyme, hint of orange blossom and honeyed stone fruits. — 6 years ago
A typical Rhône valley Syrah. Very nice companion with the steak — 7 years ago
Wow. Complex, ripe but deliciously structured, runs a line with aromas that remind me of a top Burgundy but then again... no. Not a super powered Syrah but a refined, elegant, complex, and cerebral kind of Saint Joseph. Challenges all the great regions of the Northern Rhône. 2010 — 8 years ago
Opened just prior to dinner and decanted. The 2010 “Reflet” pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of dark brambles, spiced cured meat, purple flowers, black pepper, Kalamata olive, dried green herbs, granitic earth, and a kiss of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is squarely in the zone and fantastic stuff. Drink now through 2035+. — 6 months ago
Honeysuckle, apricot, white peach — 2 years ago
Between peppery black fruits and intense mineral notes. Freshness and power. Can age 2 years to develop some aromatic reliefs.
Entre fruits noirs poivrés et notes minérales intenses. Fraîcheur et puissance. Peut vieillir 2 ans pour développer quelques reliefs aromatiques. — 3 years ago
Rivig. Angenäm bitterhet. Apelsinzest, bakad citron, anis, kardemumma. Medelsyra, oljig och lätt tannin. — 6 years ago
2012. Violet, blackberry, pencil/graphite, herbs (thym!), but soft tannins and very smooth and balanced. — 9 years ago
Trop jeune mais très bon, belle finesse — 9 years ago

Needs 30 minutes for the modicum of oak to blow off.
Nose: white flowers. Hint of elegant richness.
Palate: white nectarines. Light for a viognier. As it opens juicy. Almost a silkiness. — 2 years ago
Quartz, granite, loess soils. Fermented in oak with native yeast. 14 months elevage in barrel 25% new 75% 3rd and 5th fill.
Terpene driven florality, sweet apricot, Christmas spices (from oak), wet stone. Mouth filling texture. A beautiful example of Condrieu. — 5 years ago
Why all but the best New World Syrah practitioners should just quit and take up another variety. Framboises, umeboshi, roast venison, herbs...all within a fresh, tender and lifted structure. Juicy and ripe on the finish, yet not at all cloying. Crozes can’t be better than this. — 6 years ago
very berry, easy to drink, medium dry, little bit of sour berry got the Pinot taste — 8 years ago

One of the best white wines I have ever tested. Very complex and interesting aromas: raisins, halva, dried fruits, caramel, melon, pineapple, lots of herbs. Perfect balance with medium+ body. — 9 years ago
