Silvio Giamello

Vicenziana Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2021

Here is a confession! I try very hard to quit delectable and give it up: But then the wines come along with a personal connection. I visited Silvio in the early 2000‘s and we tried his 2003. Great wine in a hot vintage. His son was born 2003. Ever since i have a soft spot for his wines. # This one is quite spectacular. Drink now it is f….great or keep for 10 years +. Classic. Sold out at Kermit Lynch. I bought just one bottle. 😢 Enough said. — 6 months ago

Well I will stay. After these very nice comments. But seriously I like the reviews the folks post on this app they are much better than Vivino.. Reasons. 1.) I am getting up there in age and although this might sound silly drinking is just harder on your body. 2.) This makes it more difficult to sample through a lot of wines - spitting is not my thing! - unless i sample 10+ wines. 3.) I got pretty much into the habit of a glass every night. Not necessarily a good thing.

Valdisanti Tenuta S. Giovanni Toscana Red Blend 2010

Another SUPER super Tuscan. Great dark fruit and spice. 10 years a good time to drink, but could easily sit for a few more years. Made more interesting to me with the Calgary connection. First tried at Bonterra (miss it) 12 years ago. Love it and the higher end offerings. — 6 years ago

Pagos Del Galir Valdeorras Mencía

As other writers have commented, this takes a long time to open up! Give it 5 or 6 hours..

Interesting nose, and could easily mistake it for a Sangiovese. Hazelnuts, almond.

Medium bodied with pomegranate, dried cherry, a touch of quince, the tannins from the fruit is still so much larger than that of the barrel it is aged in, giving that true connection to old world wine.
A touch of acid and lip smacking tannin.
The label has the lot and date stamped on it.

Boundary Breaks Vineyard

Ovid Line North Medium Dry Riesling 2018

Nose has candied pineapple, very ripe nectarine, straw bale, white/yellow flowers and lemon peel.

Palate has tangerine zest, Mandarin orange slice, under-ripe peach, wet river rocks, slightly waxy texture with a short finish.

Decanted 2H.
A quite youthful bottle, revisit 2026+

On point with the Spätlese style connection per Vinous comments.

Paired to Chicken Adobo (Milk Street recipe) and I'm convinced that coconut milk ingredient dishes are a perfect match to Riesling.
