Penfolds

Bin 28 South Australia Shiraz 2019

Rich, sweet oak, intense dark fruits, also shows some heat (14.5%), this is a serious Aussie Shiraz that screams for at least another decade of aging (as @Bob McDonald has said previously), drinking this tonight feels like robbing the cradle??!! — 8 months ago

The Calling Wines

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2015

A field of fresh real strawberry mingled with blackberry bramble and mint.
This nose continues to influence the wines light bodied flavor nuances.
Cherry skins, ripe red fruits, feathery vanilla tannins, crisp and well integrated horseshoe acidity. (Front and sides of tongue)
Delightful.

Archil Guniava

Kvaliti Krakhuna Dry White

Archil Guniava – Kvaliti Krakhuna Dry White 2023
Imereti – Georgia 🇬🇪

Overview
Made from 100% Krakhuna, an indigenous Georgian grape from Imereti, this wine showcases one of the country’s lesser-known yet expressive varieties. Crafted traditionally but in a fresher dry style, it highlights Georgia’s deep viticultural heritage. (Educational note: “Krakhuna” means “crisp” in the local dialect — true to the grape’s reputation for lively acidity and structure.)

Aromas & Flavors
Bright pear, yellow apple, and quince with notes of citrus zest, white flowers, and a touch of honeycomb. Subtle mineral undertones add depth and a sense of place.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity and a textured edge. Clean, dry, and refreshing, with a lingering finish that balances fruit and minerality.

Food Pairings
Ideal with Georgian fare such as khachapuri or grilled trout. Also pairs beautifully with Mediterranean mezze, fresh salads, or light poultry dishes.

Verdict
A crisp, lively white that celebrates Georgian heritage through the Krakhuna grape. Bright, textured, and full of character — a bottle that both educates and delights. 🍷

Did You Know?
Georgia is considered the cradle of wine, with over 500 indigenous grape varieties. Krakhuna is prized for its balance of ripeness and acidity, making it one of Imereti’s standout white grapes.

Hidden Gem 💎
Archil Guniava’s small-scale wines rarely make it outside Georgia, making this Krakhuna a true discovery for those exploring beyond the well-known European classics.

Corton-Renardes Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Robbing the cradle but this is so damn good! Great texture, balance, and length. Supremely satisfying and refreshing. With time this will develop all the layered joy of great Burgundy, for now it’s impressively delicious. — 6 years ago

Prapò Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

Robbing the cradle, but so delicious 🤤 captures the best of Serralunga but with a sense of generosity. Classy, structured, power and elegance in harmony even at this stage in its life. More time would certainly bring more complexity, but with leg of lamb roast this was killer. Rose petal, exotic spices, dried flowers, eucalyptus, black cherries, clove, camphor and limestone. — 7 years ago

Thanks for sharing Matt. The colour is unusual for a Barolo.

Durigutti

Mendoza Cabernet Franc 2017

Robbing the cradle I know, yet have to taste when I grab a trinity.

Smells like roasted animal fat (as a Pescatarian, the same qualities are very similar) and old socks.

Tastes of olive oil (Animal fat) Herbs de Provence, leather, Tabac.
This finishes with medium tannin/acid mouthfeel.
This is a nice Cab Franc. South America shines!

Herrick Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Open a little more than an hour and is just really showing its breadth. Spice, acidity and round tannins. Fragrant and lovely nose. Red fruit, chocolate, and plum. RP gave this 97 so I thought I'd rob the cradle for a nice Christmas treat after the craziness of the day is over. Probably a good rating but needs some more time. — 10 years ago

Literally it means 'the cradle of elfs', which points out that this wine is made from a recently replanted plot within the Roches aux Moines vineyard in Savennières. Salty & rich expression of Chenin with a clear natural wine character and a frayed end (that I love about it). — 10 years ago

Château Bellisle Mondotte

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Robbing the cradle. 15% abv. and it’s not shy about it. 80% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc. Needs 3+ hours of air if drinking now. Powerful, spicy, earthy nose. Tannin is wonderfully approachable. This wine is gonna slap in 2030. — 4 years ago

Rías Baixas Albariño 2014

El sabor intenso a chabacano y cebada de este vilanovés es muy cautivante. Los albariños no defraudan, eso para mí es un hecho hasta el momento. Refrescante como la brisa de Pontevedra de su cuna.

The intense flavor of apricot and barley of this vilanovés is very captivating. Albariño do not disappoint, that for me is a fact so far. Refreshing as the breeze of Pontevedra from its cradle.
