If I could use just one word? Intense! Still tight but the layers of dark fruit are starting to shine through the angular, lead pencil soaked tannins. Everything is super balanced and leads you to a grippy, lingering finish. Drinking it right here in the Idaho Mountains! What a life. Oh, talking about Idaho. It finally got on the map of Wine Folly! Nice piece of Napa history went down tonight to celebrate the upcoming 15th anniversary at Folly Beach SC. Herbal nose. Aged yellow fruit. Poured medium to dark amber color into the glass. An hour gave this one more aromatics. Cashews, peanuts, rosemary, overripe yellow fruits. The entry was surprisingly dense and full bodied. Palate rather equal to the nose. Finishes with a little more acidity than I thought it would. Went well with an eclectic group of tacos which brought out a kinds of things here. — 7 years ago
Easy to pair with food, wallet friendly. — 8 years ago
Not the best 2000 I have had. Some harsh characters but still with nice fruit, eucalyptus and saddle leather. — 6 months ago
Apparently the window for drinking Tempranillo is 5 to 10 yrs (Wine Folly). WE vintage chart indicated the 2016 Rioja to be a 95 " can drink not at peak. WS rated this at a 92; I would not go that far! I always wonder about ratings? Is it an estimate for when the wine is near maturity? Please note the above information I utilize as a soft guide; deeply appreciate advice given through this forum!
This wine needed some coaxing, two days on the counter..no cork plus 90 min. decant. Old World in style, tobacco, violets, rich Bing Cherries, licorice Snaps and cedar. Patience is everything I took a sip of this two days ago and thought about dumping it! — 5 years ago

Very balanced, tastes expensive compared to what we usually drink. Cherries on the nose, strawberry, prunes, cinnamon, spices, pepper. Part of wine folly set. Liked better than the GSM. Good zippy acidity. Would buy again. — 6 years ago
One of 4 wines brought to Folly Beach to enjoy a pre-15th anniversary celebration. Nose of black licorice and young pipe tobacco. Entry is a little bit sweeter, but classic Rioja with terroir driven notes, full bodied black cherry, black licorice, smoked pipe tobacco, brambleberry cola, semi-sweet plums, mint. Definitely more on the full-bodied side. Finishes long with a lot of pepper and flinty character. I honestly think this one has a solid 10 years ahead of it. — 7 years ago
A nose of, well, Pinot! No mistaking this red fruit - raspberry, strawberry - and rose petals. The palate has a touch of darker fruit up front but then lavender, cinnamon and strawberry rhubarb. The finish is medium length. This goes down (a little) easy. — 7 years ago
Had this wine at Folk's Folly with my beautiful wife on my 66 B'day. — 8 years ago
This wine is dark in color. It smells like it has been perfumed, with ripe red berries, plums and cherries on the nose. The fruit is layered over an herbal note, but not anything like bell pepper or peas. It smells like cedar trees. The nose of a Paso Cab always grabs me, and this one does it to the fullest. The palate is simply beautiful. Whenever I start thinking I could get along with ten dollar wines, along comes a wine like this one to show me the folly of that thought. The fruit flavors tend toward the dark side, while sweet oak provides a beautiful lift. The tannins are silky smooth, even upon opening the bottle. The winery says you’d better have some seared lamb to pair with it. — 2 years ago
Dec 14, 2020. W/ Caitlin. Wine Folly tasting challenge, Bordeaux. C got this at Last Bottle. Definitely needs more time but should be beautiful in a couple years. Cedar, cherry, black fruit. Complex and well balanced. — 6 years ago
Real nice orange wine — 6 years ago
One of 4 brought out to Folly Beach SC to do a little early 15rh Anniversary celebrating.... One of the best domestic CFs out there IMO. Very consistently good but needs time. And I dare say at 10 years old, this one probably needs another one or two years before it is at the top. Nose of pink and white wildflowers. Entry with young fig & tobacco. Also black cherry, herbs, and fig. Rather brambly and then a touch acidic on the finish which was a bit of a surprise. I'd probably hold these another year or two, but if you are going to drink them at least give it a couple of hours to decant. I think the entire bottle lasted about twenty minutes for us....... — 7 years ago

Saved the big boy for my birthday! Back at Folk’s Folly enjoying this delicious special edition cab! — 7 years ago
