Ornellaia

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Le Volte Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2022

A great “uncork and pour” Toscana IGT Rosso, with a blend ratio of 51% Cab Sauv, 44% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. A truly traditional Bolgheri-styled super tuscan, known for versatile, bright and uplifting wines.

The v.2022 displays fruitier and juicy aromas on the nose driven by blackberries and cherry medley, with some peppy notes as well. The palate welcomes a fresh fruit-forward with medium-less textured tannins, once it opens for about 30 mins shows more subtle ripen red fruits and becomes smoother. Mouthfeel has a soft-end thanks to the MLF in steel tanks. However, the wine was aged for 10 months, partly in barriques used previously for its Ornellaia wines and partly in concrete tanks, to attain a nearly-perfect balance between the structure of its tannins and the fruit-forward expression.

Had this wine in a traditional “Trattoria-style” Ristorante known for Central Tuscany-cuisine. Simply Marvelous!

Bolgheri Orma

Passi di Orma Red Blend 2022

Orma is sandwiched between Sassicaia and Ornellaia. This not their second wine that is a Merlot dominant Bordeaux blend. Medium bodied with nice complexity. Plums, orange peel, fine wood, clay, black tea, clove, coffee beans. — a year ago

This is actually the Ornelias label
Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon 60/40
Mimicking the Ornellaia and doing it pretty well too. Glen Garvald is a Levantine Hill side venture.

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2011

A splurge treat. It didn’t surpass Ornellaia as my all time favourite, but definitely further established Bolgheri as my favourite wine region. A beautiful, elegant and balanced wine. Smooth and delicious. — 3 years ago

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2021

Pair of 21’s tonight where the Tignanello is youthful & not as open as the Ornellaia. Will be a great vintage that needs a few more years — 3 months ago

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Masseto Toscana IGT Merlot 2005

The Masseto Ornellaia is an exceptional expression of a Merlot, offering a beautifully balanced blend of power and elegance. On the nose, there’s an inviting oak aroma that seamlessly mingles with ripe, dark fruit—think blackberries and plums—with subtle hints of licorice and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied, with layers of dark fruit flavors unfolding effortlessly, underpinned by a velvety texture. The oak is well-integrated, adding depth without overwhelming the fruit. Its tannins are smooth but structured, leading to a long, lingering finish. Overall, it’s a complex, luxurious wine that evolves beautifully in the glass. — 6 months ago

Solaia Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2001

An amazing wine with incredible complexity. Black currants, black plums, dark chocolate, earth, sawdust, cigar smoke, etc. It just keeps going on and on! Better than the 2001 Ornellaia I had earlier. It can be enjoyed for many years to come. — 2 years ago
