Looking for something to pair to spaghetti all'Amatriciana tonight. Decent but the dish probably deserves a slightly richer wine, more southern Italy.
Decanted 3H, prior notes mostly apply:
Nose has spring roses, mashed tart cherry, cold tar, cold dark chocolate and brown sugar.
Palate has milk chocolate covered cherry, lightly charred wood, early season cherry, dry loam-y soil, medium tannins and a medium-long finish.
Declassified Barbaresco thanks to Italian yield limits, this wine is a total value play at ~$35.
1088 bottles produced.
Future bottles should be at least 5-8Y out, 2026-2029 for future sampling, this wine has the guts to get at least there, and then some. — 5 years ago

It smells like walking through the woods and into a chocolate shop with dark mahogany shelves and eucalyptus displays...maybe some black pepper kernels are on the counters. This is all a good thing, not bad. Good acidity with lingering tannins. The eucalyptus and wood comes through more than chocolate, which is more cacao nibs than anything. The fruit is dark red currant with some tartness and that black peppers pops it’s head again. Good with Korean style beef. Probably has a few more years of development, no more. — 6 years ago

Great Bordeaux blend: red berries, wet leaves, earth, spice and oak. Balanced. — 6 years ago

Wine and cheese. Good with EVOO and Havarti and Manchego. Just ok with Gruyère . — 4 years ago
Okay, no one is confusing this with a Chateau Margeaux, but that's only because it lacks the really deep complexity. And many other ways, it has the rich depth and smooth tannins and even some of the aromas of the real thing. Lovely one. — 5 years ago
Great summer red. — 6 years ago
Pricy, but worth it! — 6 years ago
Excellent riesling, not too sweet — 7 years ago
