Another vintage, another lovely Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto which continues to be a benchmark for wines from San Donato in Poggio. Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent over both. The 2019 Monsanto CCR pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, baked mixed berries, dried green herbs, red carnations, dried gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry. Medium+ tannin and Medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely pairing with almost any red sauce dish. Drinking well now and I expect it will continue to do so through 2034. — 2 years ago
Had it at NOC wine tasting and loved it — 4 years ago
Had at Landini Brothers on 1/11/2026 for Mom’s b-day with the family. Very enjoyable, lighter, balanced Italian red. Paired well with everything and had good fruit and structure. — 2 months ago

Fiils like nice, but already started to regress. Pity. Wulould like to try younger vintage — 6 months ago
Stunningly good and a bit underrated on this app. I snagged 3 bottles from MCF Rare Wine since this will no longer be distributed in NYC :( Very Chianti Classico and very rich on the nose. Dark fruits transition to bright, juicy, ripe cherry. Minerals and dried herbs on a veeerrry long finish. Really delicious and an honest, no fuss expression of Sangiovese. 14% abv, organic. I’ll have to resist opening the last 2 bottles. — 9 months ago

Wow. A lovely wine. Lovely herbs - sage and a hint of green pepper. Well balanced with refined tannins. Super long finish. Well done 100% Merlot and organic #poggiofoco — 6 years ago

On the nose, I get cassis, blackberry, and a touch of worn leather — classic, understated Tuscan character. There’s also a subtle cherry note that adds brightness without turning sweet.
On the palate, it’s very dry, soft, and composed. Nothing overpowering. The tannins are gentle and well-integrated, giving it a smooth texture rather than grip. The finish isn’t long or dramatic — but that’s part of its charm. It doesn’t demand attention; it invites it.
This is a balanced, easygoing Sangiovese blend — elegant, restrained, and quietly satisfying. — a month ago
