Last bottle of the 2013… At 12+ years old, tremendous aging potential on display. — 7 months ago
Loved the maturation on this bottle at nine years old: Sturdy and structured. Concentration of ripe red fruit plus plenty of phenolic verve. A fantastic representation of a masculine Virginia CF — 9 months ago
This was really impressive. My first try of Virginia wine and what a great example of the potential. Mesmerizing aromatics. Berries, herbs, coffee beans, rosemary, underbrush. Silky on the palate with a fresh and tannic finish. It’s a shame Virginia wine is almost impossible to find in Europe. If I could, I’d explore more. — 3 years ago
So not much has changed in 3 yrs since first trying this in the tasting room. The profile is lean and linear. 69 CS 16 Merlot and the rest PV. This clearly the weakest build of Jeff’s run of left bank builds. The 2014 was classic, so not huge numbers for the CS. THE TEXTURE IS LOVELY though. ;) 90+ for sure, keeping the streak ALIVE!! — 5 years ago
Outstanding! Great medium bodied, plum and earthy. Loved it — 2 months ago
Pristine balance - A deft touch in tempering acid and monitoring sugars. This version was very oriented towards a broader spectrum of entrées. In other words, the big fruit acids were lowered, and the intense sugary mouth feel was more elegant. — 7 months ago
This wine looks yellow-gold with a greenish tint to it. The nose is quite aromatic, displaying a floral note along with massive citrus minerality. The palate has lemon, lime and grapefruit flavors joined by a wonderful salinity. The acidity is very fresh, but the mouthfeel has, overall, a rather soft touch. It’s great to find a Vermentino of this quality that’s made in America. Virginia is for Vermentino lovers, I suppose. — a year ago
One of finest vintage yrs for this estate, as evidenced by the OPULENTLY RICH PV component. Jeffersons terroir and taste of place are evident in this bottle… Think somewhere in between Paso Robles Cab and Rhône GSM. - very unique finish. Delish and a real value! $28 at Wegs — 4 years ago
Gift of Roger and Joann Christmas 2020 — 2017 on 10/16/2021. Purple. Blackberry wet bark violets. Surprisingly thin but still fruity and lasting on pallet. — 5 years ago
Really enjoyed the balance of fruit and oak - good for a cooler day when you still want a white. Not ideal summer drinking wine — 5 years ago
Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here is a tasty one from Virginia.
Dark ruby in color with a nice reddish rim.
Fruity nose with blueberries, currants, bing cherries, honeysuckle, light oak, red candy, spices, dark coffee, vanilla, dark chocolates, light vegetables and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and pretty legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, black currants, light wood, spices, black pepper, earth, bitter herbs and tobacco leaf.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very interesting wine from Virginia. A nice Bordeaux blend that warrants food, although pretty nice by itself too. Tangy and soft, with a nice mouthfeel and mild complexity.
Needs 30 minutes to open up properly, but so much nicer after 90 minutes in a decanter, when it really comes together.
Could be mistaken for a California Bordeaux blend, except for the honeysuckle nose, that i usually find in wines from the Southeast of the US.
Nice and engaging with lively acidity and a tangy finish.
Would be nice to see how it ages in the next 5 years.
I enjoyed it with Brie cheese.
A blend of 41% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, 23% petit verdot, and 4% Malbec.
13.6% alcohol by volume.
90 points.

I don’t know how many bottles of this I had, but this was my last one. From a remarkably wet vintage, Mark was able to use more PV to add tanning and depth of flavor to really save this build. Ironically, day two was better than day one! Flavors really unfurled as would be indicative of a highly concentrated wine. This was a real education in a bottle. — 5 months ago
Fabulous character! The best of Virginia’s Piedmont foothills on display — 8 months ago
10/10/24 ALX Best of Virginia wine class. 100% Petit Manseng. Loved this one! Extremely tart and citrusy, light and refreshing. One of my (and Erin the wine guru!) favorite VA wines! — 2 years ago
