Nicholson Jones

Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Somm David T
9.4

I went to Covert to taste the Nicholas Jones Sleeping Lady. I have two vintages (14 & 16) in my collection but have never had one. I bought on recommendation from @Paul T HB.

I had hoped to try their 2023 but they are still tasting their 2019. Per my host, they hold back their Sleeping Lady awhile longer to age further in bottle.

This 2019 was the best in the tasting. It demonstrated to me that I could open my 14 or 16 or continue to hold awhile longer.

I would say that the Nicholas Jones demonstrate more depth & character over the Covert.

Caveat being price,, my scores would be lower if I had paid release. But I still enjoy most bottles from this vineyard but at $125.00 or less.

Macchia

Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel 2022

A truly representation of an Old Vine Zin (Mohr Fry) from Acampo, Lodiis all about. Made out of 90+ year-old vines which provides a great amount of concentrated ripe cherry and abundance rich ripen red fruit flavors. Persistent and lingering to perfection point on the finish. Although is 15.8% abv, is warm with enough balance and structure. Oaky can be perceived medium-low as well. One of the top dogs of Macchia wines. — a year ago

Kinsman Eades

Anjea Sleeping Lady Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

2018 Kinsman Eades Anjea… admittedly very young and still a little tannic, but unfurled a bit after time in the glass with a great nose and flavors of blackberries, blueberry pie, black cherries.. a hint of iron and herbs in the background! This will only get better with time! Even better the following day!! — 2 years ago

Ad Vinum

Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of black fruits with cedar, licorice, metals, light earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf and dark coffee.

Full-bodied and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, vanilla, cedar, licorice, spices, dark chocolates, peppercorn, herbs and light black tea.

Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Fruit forward and somewhat subdued. Feels like a Left Bank Bordeaux.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Wine Enthusiasts 95 points. Robert Parker 93 points.

Elegant and good by itself or with food.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (70% new) French oak barrels for 20 months.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

$150.

Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Franc

Dark ruby color with a nose of blackberries, cassis, potpourri, a touch of strawberries, leather, vanilla, and an interesting sea air freshness. Full-bodied wine with amazing fruit. The tannins are definitely there, but not so overwhelming as to close the wine and kill the fruit. Finish is long and pleasant at over a minute. This is my type of wine! Celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary with this. Couldn’t have made a better choice. — 4 years ago
