Outstanding Alsatian Pinot Noir, from vineyards in Wettolsheim, next to Colmar. Precise nose with notes of red fruit, smoke, minerals. Fresh, lively, good acidity — 4 years ago

Alsace Gewurz is a wine I pop when I want to reward myself. Tonight it’s a reward for getting a lot of yard-work done on a ridiculously hot and humid day and not getting dehydrated.
The nose is Gewurtzy, of course, in that it shows lychee, apricot, and musky florals, but what really sets this apart from the run-of-the-mill G-Dog is its minerality. Takes it from the verge of cloying, with which Gewurz can flirt, to something special. Soft and full in the mouth, slightly sweet. Very long finish. — 8 years ago

Grossheppacher Steingrüble Chardonnay 2019
Nice expressive nose full of ripe yellow exotic fruit with underripe pineapple, ripe lemons, yellow pears with some very decent woody character noticeable and a hint of toasted sesame reduction.
Quite round & elegant and very inviting.
The wow happens after the first sip.
Wonderful flow on the palate with juicy acidity. So precise with a cool mineral core and the fruit filling the background. This has depth, energy & focus and just a hint of tannin edginess. Pure yet not puristic.
This is absolutely delightful! Clearly not Burgundy and yet this is one of the very best Chardonnay’s I’ve had in quite some time. What a find!! — 4 years ago

Great tension between racy & creamy elements. Wet stones, orange peel, cream, chervil. Impeccable. #barmesbuecher #pinotblanc — 8 years ago
A bit cleaner and more focused than I'd expect from Alsace but clearly Riesling. I thought it was GG. — 9 years ago
2008--Not bad, clean, but not very expressive. — 10 years ago
Lichée et son bonheur! — a year ago
Lychee, pineapple, baked apple balanced by a crisp citrusy finish. Medium- acidity. Yum. — 6 years ago
Gun powder, fresh grape juice, honey on the nose. Very nice. The palate is sweet but balanced with a sheer acid backbone that drives it very far. Nice layers of fruits and honey on the sides and an everlasting grape and honey finish that lingers. Very good and not heavy at all — 8 years ago
Rich without beeing cloying, dry, with slight tropical notes, moderate acidity and ripe stone fruit, so satisfying! — 9 years ago
Excellentissime pas trop doux et un fruité et une longueur en bouche...:-)) — 9 years ago

The 2023 Kuentz-Bas Riesling is an example of what me truly fall in love with this entire style of Alsatian wine. A soft hue of chartreuse meets the eye, and does not lie. After a bit of a breathe the nose is lush and grassy in all the right ways. The palate is where it shines, bringing oodles of wet stone, delightfully gum-soaking minerality, and a finish that defines this style of Riesling. This is in the top three when we pair it with anything spicy- particularly creole- but any spice will do.
