2023 vintage. Medium-medium heavy body. Old-school RRV swill that eschews the sweetness that crept into the area during the Williams-Selyem heyday/culty scores of the mid-80's to mid-90's. Big tea, earth, light mud, restrained cherry and plum. Structure. Fruit. Balance. No sizzle, all steak. Blind tasting this, you'd be hella pressed to call this as being from RRV. Tastes like it's got 8-10 years of age on it already as a new release. You could sock this away for an easy 15-spot if you're that disciplined, unorganized or behind on opening other stuff. One of the best new domestic pinots tasted in the last few years. P.S...tasted the 2023 MacIntyre (the one that gets all the scores/pub) right after this. It was nice. A new school nice at 9.3. Pretty deep ruby , narrow pink ruby rim . Deeper fruits , blackberry , blackcurrant and dark cherry , touch of spice . Sweeter fruits , blackberry , touch of blackcurrant , bacon fat , olive . Quite sweet tannin , ok acidity . Alcohol is slightly noticeable . Good length . This is just entering its drinking window , will continue to improve over the next 5 years and last a further 5-10. Maybe not for the purists but this is stunning and I love it . It’s had 15+ years ageing and has old yeasty nose which is stunning. Not as sweet as you would think especially when paired with desert - almost dry feeling and certainly evident quality of the wine. An excellent aged Cabernet to go with a Scotch Fillet at the local pub in Sorrento on Boxing Day night. Domaine A is living proof that Tasmania does get enough sunshine to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. All the classic Cabernet descriptors - Cassis Tomato bush, and Tobacco leaf to the fore here. Medium weight with resolving tannins. — 2 years ago
