Baby Blue Corn Whiskey

It’s got a nice burn that I like in a whiskey, Raw—but without the medicine taste you’d often get by not aging it long in wood. — 3 years ago

Clos Saint Jean

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2009

Other raters may have opened this baby too early. Now Clos St. J is deeply intense with blackberry, Garrigue and fennel. Very pure flavors. No alcohol burn at all. A real decadent pleasure. — 4 years ago

Lucien Le Moine

Les Grands Épenots Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Quite a bit of weight but that is Le Moine. Close to a super Volnay but it is Pommard. Red currants, saline, high minerality and super long burn. Wow. — 6 years ago

Calafe

Ariavecchia Greco di Tufo 2007

Minerals that burn your nose. This is what pears and nuts do when they age together and are coated in creme fraiche. Big lemons, pith and fresh juice. It keeps tasting like it’ll get to the bitter point but instead it turns into spice. It tastes like blue cheese all along the tongue. Tons of umami. Love that volcanic smokiness, like good fiano gets too. Does Campanian wine get any better than this? Some oaky sweet spices like vanilla and white pepper and black pepper. Like the spice in the finish. Long finish. It’s big and delicious. I wish I had more stashed away. Where is it, @Lyle Fass ? — 6 years ago

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Stunning Clos de la Roche. Very fruit forward, years to go but absolutely delicious now. Black fruit and 🍒, highly perfumed. Nice acidity and salinity. Amazing burn. One of the best I have ever tasted and ready quite early. — 2 years ago

Cocobon Wines

Estates Roasted Oak California Red Blend

Color of dark purple. Nose of woody barrel, dark fruits, strength of alcohol, and more oaky note. Taste is smooth and sweet, low tannins, with slightly burn maybe due to being aged in oak barrel. Some more grapefruit, acidity, cocoa, spicy alcohol and sweet ripe fruits in the 2nd sip. Aftertaste definitely shows some warmth in the throat. Quite tasty at this price range. — 4 years ago

Austin Hope

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

1978 Chuck Hope left beverage job, moved to Paso Robles, became farmer, & top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from 5 small blocks of Paso Robles AVAs, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, long fruit finish. The 15% ABV, slight burn, but ok. Nice! — 6 years ago

Borne of Fire

The Burn Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Clear, deep ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with medium intensity primary and secondary aromas of blackberries, cassis, and graphite; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of black cherries, blueberries, black cardamom and bell pepper with a long finish. This wine is complex and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. — 4 months ago

Domaine Grosbot-Barbara

S.A.S Prince Charles-Henri de Lobkowicz St. Pourçain Chardonnay Blend 2016

Lyle Fass
9.5

One of true great secrets of the wine world. 70% Chardonnay and 30% Tressallier. Nothing like it. Energy for days. Beautiful pillow like aromas. Candied but so barely it’s remarkable. Hint of confectionary. Stoney, so floral. Haunting. Just ridiculous. This is the best bottle of this wine I’ve had so far. There is such a purity to the aromas which are so unique because Tressallier is such a freaky grape. But it’s a fine aroma. Amazing palate. Such depth, density and acidity and a taught structure. The energy and intensity is incredible. So long, so mineral. Outrageous. This would compete in a line up of Meursault Perrieres. Structure to burn and a bright future. This will be best in 7 years I think. This is built like a brick house. — 6 years ago
