Core of red with light brickish edges.

Nose is pretty. Dryish cherries to cherries, strawberries, blackberries flow underneath, raspberries, some fresh rhubarb, notes of cherry Jolly Rancher, red to mid berry cola, some soapy baking powder notes, tobacco, used leather, (might be the glass), soft, mid intensity baking spices, vanilla-in, soft oak shavings, moist clay, limestone, dry top soils, red flowers, red roses & candied violets.

The palate is ripe, juicy; sweet & tart cherries, strawberries, some black berries, dry pomegranate, somewhat stewed/spiced plum, blackberries with circling raspberries, nice mid spice, dry tobacco, leather, grilled meats, soft, mid intensity baking spices, vanilla-in, soft,dry, oak shavings, moist clay, limestone, volcanics, hints of white pepper, dry leaves, dry top soils, red flowers, red roses & candied violets, excellent acidy with a well made, balanced, biggish structure & tension, good length finish that lasts minutes and fall on spice & minerals.

Soms heb je zo’n glas waar alles samenkomt.

Pascal Cotat, Sancerre Le Grande Côte 2015.
En wát een wijn is dit weer zeg, zo blij met mijn geduld 😃

Alles waar je op hoopt bij rijping, gebeurt hier. De spanning is er nog, maar nu verweven met rijp fruit, een bijna wasachtige textuur en die zilt-minerale diepgang die maar blijft doorgaan. Dit is geen frisse, strakke Sauvignon Blanc, dit is gelaagd, complex en serieus indrukwekkend.

Het mooiste?
Dit bevestigt precies waarom geduld loont. Deze wijn hééft tijd nodig. En als je ‘m dat geeft, krijg je iets terug dat echt buitencategorie is.

Ik zeg het niet snel, maar: dit is echt mijn wijn. En dat terwijl ik normaal geen uitgesproken liefhebber ben van deze druif.

Maar dit… dit is gewoon geniaal. 🍷

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2017 Rio Sordo pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and loads of chunky sediment towards the bottom. On the nose, the wine is developing with solar notes of Morello cherry, pomegranate, tar, roses, dried green herbs, old wood and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. These 2017 Riserva’s are already showing really well…sneaky good. Very pretty color of peach with a salmon hue.

Strong nose of apples, citrus, peaches, yeast, light bread and minerals.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and tiny bubbles.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, over ripen strawberries, apples, limes, yeast, sea salt, brioche, spices, minerals, light earth and cardamom.

Long spicy finish with limes and grapefruits.

This 14 year old Rosé Champagne is drinking beautifully already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Elegant, spicy and rich. Fruity and nicely balanced, complex and engaging.

Wine Spectator 96 points. Wine Advocate 95 points.

Good right out of the bottle, and better when not too cold.

A great sipping wine that paired beautifully with my Tuna Avocado Tartare.

A blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay, with 5% red wine. Disgorged in 2020.

Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe fresh berry fruits, spice and herb notes, has a splash of Merlot added to the Malbec. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with notes of oak and black pepper notes. Fine soft tannins, great balance with acidity, long finish ending with juicy fruits and mineral notes. I am seldom dumbfounded when it comes to wine. So, I appreciate it when that happens.

This 1990 La Grande Dame was amazing and so fresh. Full disclosure, I am not normally impressed by this producer and this cuvée. Unusual for a champagne of 35 yrs to be so fresh in my experience from inception. So much so, if poured blind many would call it N/V or a fairly recent vintage. The color was even palish straw. Mags were brought from their Champagne House.

Excellent with the dessert of the evening, “Lemon Meringue Pie Cookie.”

Enjoyed at the 2026 “From Cellar Event” Pebble Beach Food and Wine.
