This wine is composed of 56% Merlot, 23% Syrah, and 21% Cabernet Franc. The longer it stayed in my glass, the better it tasted. It has pronounced aromas of dark plum, dark cherry, and blackberry, along with a hint of pepper and some spiced herbs. The wine is complex, well-rounded, and balanced, featuring smooth tannins and a long finish. — a year ago
2018 vintage. From the estate formerly known as Château Goubau (renamed 2016) and from the same family that brings you L’If and some wine called Le Pin. 95% Merlot. 5% Cab Franc. Really dark hue. Mint, blackberries, earth and tobacco in the nose. Medium-bodied with ample, silky tannins. The longer in the glass, the more white pepper and herbaceous flavors gain prominence. Nice QPR and will look to pick up more. Pretty now but just may be a stunner in a few years. — 5 years ago

Love it, best wine ever. — 8 years ago

First meeting of monthly wine group and everyone came to play.
Nose: areomatics draw you in with ripe dark fruit, floral, forest floor, truffles. Taste: Elegant, silky, balanced wine with cherry, smoke, toast, earth, and a medium plus plum/cedar/chocolate finish. YUM!! — 6 months ago

1985 vintage. A nice surprise and another testimony to the ageing potential of the great 1985 vintage. Still a solid colour at 37 years old. Smoke and cedar wood, good concentration of dried fruits and spices. There is complexity and length, well worth seeking out if you like older wines. — 4 years ago

A wonderful bottle of 100% Syrah out of the South Okanagan Valley in BC. This is a flagship wine and vintage for Le Vieux Pin. A bold wine, yet supple tannins and an extremely smooth mouth feel. Exceptionally balanced. Aromas of violets; red and black berry fruit, with baking spice, and black pepper on the palette. A stunner! — 9 months ago
Wonderful food wine. Nice acidity, great balance with some honeycomb notes — 3 years ago
La Guigasse has a sweeter fruit, less aromas and lower definition than Les Grand Pin in 2017. — 6 years ago

One of the Thienpont “treelogy” (along with Le Pin and L’Hêtre), this L’if from the weak 2013 vintage highlights finesse, freshness, and soft tannins rather than fruits and depth. Notes of red currant, cranberry, licorice with a distinct rusty iron, mineral edge. The medium body is elegant and finely etched, with brisk acidity and silky texture. Mineral echoes on the long finish.
