Château Tour Haut Caussan

Château Tour du Haut-Moulin

Cru Bourgeois Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Owned by the same family since 1870, until the fifth generation, Lionel Poitou sold this 10 hectares estate to 3 Israeli winemakers. La Tour du Haut Moulin has a long reputation for value for money, and this 2018 is no exception. Solid dark red colour with only a little evolution. In the mouth it features a serious black fruit concentration, balanced by fresh acidity and a serious tannic backbone, while avoiding the alcohol heath that sometimes characterises this hot vintage. It has an old school slightly rustic feel about it, but it's incredible value for money. Drinking very well now, but no need to hurry, I am convinced it will last at least for another decade. I found this in a local supermarket for 8,09 euro, I kid you not! Life is fine for wine lovers in the Bordeaux region. Abv. 13,5%. I am curious to see what the new owners will achieve with this estate, there should be huge potential . — 3 months ago

Château Tour de Marbuzet

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

2013 was a not a great year for Bordeaux apparantly. But not for this second wine of Haut Marbuzet. Plenty of red fruit, nice acidity , maybe a bit too tannic. Nevertheless a good wine! — 4 years ago

Philippe Courrian

Le Tannat 2007

2007 vintage. A 100% Tannat made by a Bordeaux producer (Philippe Courrian also owns Chateau La Tour Haut Caussan) in the Languedoc ( Corbières). Sounds interesting, and it is very good indeed. A little bit animal-like at first, give it some time to breathe in order to discover a panoply of dried herbs, spices and dried black fruits. Rustic, powerful and tannic, still very much alive. Long dry finish. Might not be for everyone, but it has a lot of personality. Try with a wild boar stew. Abv. 14%. Production about 2000 bottles. — 5 years ago

Profond, juste ce qui faut de longueur en bouche mais pas trop pour apprécier la nourriture et enchainer d'autres plats et d'autres vins.

I must say- as bad as our Haut Brion experience was this was just the opposite. Excellent tasting, tour, atmosphere and of course the wine — 7 years ago

Chateau Tour St Joseph Haut-Medoc Merlot Blend 2012

Chateau Tour Saint Joseph Cru Bourgeois Haut Médoc 2012, Bordeaux, France

It is time for some Merlot on this
#MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of black currants, plums, rhubarb, cooked cherries, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, black pepper and licorice.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, oak, spices, chocolates, tobacco leaf, coffee, licorice, peppercorn, earth and herbs.

Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This 13 year old Merlot based blend from Bordeaux is still drinking nicely, although will not last long. Easy drinking and complex.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. I really enjoyed the nose once it opened up.

A good food wine that paired nicely with the charcuterie board.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$25 (current vintage).

Chateau Haut Tour de Coutelin

Saint Estephe Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Wow, flavor bomb 💥 intense and complex. Tobacco, mocha, cedar, graphite, and dirt around a nice core of sweet and charred dark fruit, cassis, plum, and blackberry. Soft, round, and long. Yum!

Drank really well after a splash decant, faded a tad after a few hours.

Château La Tour de Bessan

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Marie Laure Lurton is one of the 10 children of Lucien Lurton and she owns Château Villegeorge (Haut-Médoc) and this Château La Tour de Bessan. Both are very good and refined. The 2018 La Tour de Bessan (named after 13th century tower on the estate that is being restaured) is a blend of 60 % Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and a rather high (11%) percentage of Petit Verdot. Dark red. In the nose a mix of red and black fruit, cedar and Petit Verdot violet. Margaux is mostly associated with elegance and this is a good example. The fruit is bright, the tannins are well-tamed and the acidity provides juiciness and balance. Intelligent winemaking with just the right extraction. Great value at 18 euros. Abv. 14,5 % but perfectly integrated. Another lovely 2018. — 5 years ago

Château de Villegeorge

Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

To fully understand the Lurton family one needs to be a professional genealogist, but if you meet a Lurton in Bordeaux it would be safe to bet she/he is involved in wine business. Marie-Laure is one of the 10 children of Lucien Lurton, and she owns Chateau de Villegeorge in Haut-Médoc and Tour de Bessan in Margaux. Villegeorge 2010 is blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (79%) and Merlot (21%). Attractive nose of cassis, cedar wood and violets. Still plenty of very ripe fruit at 10 years old, good concentration and length. Fine value today at 28 euro. — 6 years ago

Deep dark purple. Thyme, laurel, lavender. Black olives. Tannins still pleasantly present. Masculine style wine. Cool, stid and tough. Red pepper. Acids still prominent. Not very sophisticated, but quite a character. — 6 months ago
