Clos Saint-André

Pomerol Merlot Blend 2016

We finally managed to have a few bottles of Clos Saint Andre to taste. Very elegant and well done Merlot that shows great fruit and acidity, and has velvety and polished tannins. Decant 60 minutes before drinking or hold for 5 to 6 years. Really good wine, recommended. — 6 years ago

Cave de Roquebrun

La Grange des Combes Saint-Chinian-Roquebrun Syrah Blend 2015

Saint-Chinian AOC is located in the heart of Languedoc. Roquebrun is one of the two under-appellation communes. The Cave cooperative accounts for almost 90% of the village production. In my experience Languedoc typically resembles Southern Rhône, but this also leans towards Provençal in style. Lavender ganache, fresh cracked pepper, anise, worn leather, rose petal, and high toned blackberry and black cherry. — 9 years ago

Chateau Finegrave

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

2022 vintage. The smallest estate in Saint-Julien ( 0,85 hectares),founded in 1961 by André Leclerc. André was also the winemaker at Léoville Barton, and he was allowed to make his wine there. Today, wine is made as a hobby by his family and their friends, many of them working for famous Saint-Julien Crus classés. The old vines are mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with 25% of Merlot. The 2022 is an impressive, classic Saint-Julien. Deep, dark red colour. Cassis, blackberries, and the most subtle touch of oak. Concentrated black fruits, embedded in a structure of ripe tannins, and good acidity. The winemaker of Beychevelle , Philippe Blanc helps out with the blending. A hidden gem ! — 3 months ago

Awesome. Won't make it across the pond but will look out for it next time I'm in the hood.

Chery Condrieu Viognier 2012

Ovenbird w M and Ritchie. Mineral. Textured. Fresh. Paired well w ankimo.

The 2012 Condrieu Coteaux du Chery, which comes from one of the most heralded sites in the appellation, is also brilliant (as is his 2011!). The most rich and textured of the lineup, it offers thrilling notes of white peach, crushed rock, buttered grapefruit, flowers and tangerine to go with a medium to full-bodied, layered, yet brilliantly fresh and detailed texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. It too will drink nicely for 4-5 years. I had a fabulous visit with proprietor Andre Perret at his cellar located just north of Chavanay. Soft spoken, charming and generous, he runs an immaculate cellar and releases up to three Condrieus in a vintage. In addition to his whites, he fashions elegant, almost Burgundian-styled reds from Saint Joseph that warrant more attention. RP95

Vieux Château Saint André

Montagne-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Pop and pour. Well, wow, I should have bought more of this. On the nose: dense plum, strawberry, cinnamon, intense without being over the top. On the palate: tar, blackberry, charcoal, dense and dark fruited...so well-balanced, fantastic length and juiciness and the finely grained tannin sneaks up on the finish. — 5 years ago

Mommessin

Les Caves Grandes Exception Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2020

In 1865, Jean-Marie Mommessin founded winery. In 1889, Mommessin acquired La Grange Saint-Pierre, ancient buildings in Macon, originally belonged to Abbey of Cluny. Its key, the Key of St. Peter, became famous house emblem. Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruit with notes of oak and floral. On the palate flavors of blackberry and currants with oak, floral, spice and earthy notes. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, oak and mineral character. — 3 years ago

JFK is someone I greatly admire, along with Churchill, MLK and Margaret Thatcher. Nice to learn a little more about him, while drinking a 2010 Bdx stunner.
Frankly, this is a Napa clone. Lovely notes of barrel toast, sandalwood, truffle and maraschino cherries, which drift onto the palette. Excellent poise and tannic structure. This wine may very well out-live me. For those of you that enjoy the texture and sweetness of Napa blends, give this a try...

For those of us that like to snoop around, on that middle shelf in the background is: Haut Brion, Harlan, Lafite, Scarlett reserve, Realm and Grange. If you are ever in the NY/NY area, come get some love. Let's see some other pics with organ extensions, please 😃

@Jody Scharf, you are right, of course. Bill is helping me with a small graphical novel. I hope we will be able to sketch the outline together over a glass in Napa. Watch this space...
