Grands Cru Echezeaux Pinot Noir 2022

Underrated producer. Bright, juicy and already complex with Grand Cru density. Showing beautifully and a perfect match for the Squab. — 8 months ago

This is a great burgundy — pure flavor, clear, bright red fruit, medium acid, low tannins. At $75, it’s a good value, although I may still prefer the Domaine Coquard at $55 even more. — 2 years ago

Wiston Estate Winery

South Downs Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay

Thanks to global warming 👍🏼

K&L notes as follows

We finally got our hands on some of Wiston’s remarkable Blanc de Blancs. This 100% Chardonnay bottling is pressed in their traditional wooden Coquard basket press, fermented and rested in neutral French oak for a year, before aging more than two years on the lees in bottle. Reserve wines range back to 2008, with the 2018 harvest making up most of this iteration. Look for aromas of white flowers, baked apple, crushed quince, pie crust, stony minerals, chalk, saline, and oyster shell notes complete this magical wine. More volume and golden ripe fruit here versus the racier other NV wines. Beautiful stuff! Limited quantity.

English bubbles are still a good QPR, but pricing has continued to rise with the demand in the last few years.

Saint-Bris Sauvignon 2019

I love this. Nose is bright with lemon, crushed tingly limestone dust, a bit of green herbs. Big flavors are bone dry, fresh, crisp, and minerally. What a bargain this is! — 4 years ago

I’ve had this burgundy a few times and it’s been interesting to watch its evolution from something primarily fruit forward to something flintier/smokier. Could age for a number of years but I think this was my last bottle! — 9 months ago

We really liked this one. Would be better off if less marked but oak. Might have good upside if cellared for like 5 years. — 3 years ago

Cuvee Antique Cesar 2019

As someone else noted, a rare bottle of a super rare red grape from Burgundy called “Cesar” (10 hectares in the world) — very dark color, rich, dark fruits, some noticeable structure, this needs 3-5 years aging to settle down, a great “stump your wine friends” wine!! — 3 years ago

Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2019

Deep violet, blueberry aroma. And oak. Juicy, balanced acidity, tanning and spiciness. Plum. First sip is quite nice, but off course, just 3 years, need to wait for minutes I can’t wait. But fat beef is too strong to match with this. Next day, much better, vanilla, smooth. Domaine Odoul-Coquard Gevrey Chambertin 2019 @1980, domaine -, 220520-220705 — 4 years ago

I’ll be honest: I enjoyed this slightly less than the Domaine Coquard, above. But I don’t know if that’s a product of it being ‘18, or if it being Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet. It’s still a marvelously well-constructed wine, it’s just tart and tight. For better or worse, my favorite burgundy flavors are the secondary ones — the leather and game you get in older wines. — 5 years ago
