It’s not quite ready yet after a decade. The initial nose is dominated by iron, leather, and earthy mineral tones. After about 2 hours in the decanter, layers of red cherry, rosehip, and dried orange peel gradually emerge. The palate is powerful and tightly wound, framed by vibrant acidity and firm tannins that have yet to fully knit into the fruit. This is a serious Barolo whose best years still appear to lie well ahead. — 24 days ago

Age has turned this 2010 magnum coffee-chocolate brick brown, but if memory serves this is an appassimento, Amarone-esque wine. It shows raisin and plum behind grill notes and black tobacco, fig and date. Tart dried cherry palate echoes tobacco, espresso and offers a cassis note. Earthy and bold. This wine exudes muscle, but does not lean on a Jammy-ness or blowsy-ness to deliver it. Really different, and singular.

I have been on Delectable for about 10 years and just under 5000 wines tasted. Delectable are now saying zero wines tasted??? Delectable have since corrected this to around 4850 wines. I had this last weekend on the Gold Coast in new Italian restaurant in Southport called Bar Ricci - excellent wine list. I’ve always thought Amarone reminds me of Fruit (raisins) and nut milk chocolate. A very fluid mouth filling texture. Silky tannins. Easy to drink. — 2 months ago

Ettore Germano's Alta Langa Extra Brut 2020 is revelatory, the sparkling wines from this Barolo producer are some of the best I have had outside champagne. His Barolos are knockouts too! Sergio, the winemaker and current family head of the winery, is a passionate

sparkling wine lover and it comes through in his sparkling wines.

Starbright-straw color, a nicely thick and frothy mousse of tiny bubbles. The nose is linear, with Meyer lemon, pear, chalk, white flowers, with a touch of reduction initially that blows off. Open this about an hour before you start to pour it out. The fruit really pushes through later with air and adds some stone fruit notes as it warms up and opens. Medium bodied, med+ acidity, med+ young, complex, and tightly layered flavors sail into a fresh and very confident and complete long finish.

Made up of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, 80/20, the Chardonnay is fermented in 500L foudre and Pinot Noir in steel, 30 months en tirage, dosage not labeled but tastes like 2 g/L or so. 93 points Kerin O'Keefe, I agree with that score. — 6 months ago
