Gallina de Piel Wines

Ikigall A Wine Worth Living Xarel.lo Blend 2022

Notes of green pear and crisp green apple. A bit thin, so won't hold up to heavy food, but okay by itself. — 3 years ago

La Spinetta

Vürsù Vigneto Valeirano Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2011

This has more edge than the Gallina, but kept opening up so beautifully. Started leather and herbaceous, finished ripe fruits and vanilla — 3 years ago

Cantina del Pino

Gallina Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2021

The color of the Cantina del Pino “Gallina” Barbaresco, swear it, is “ruby squared”. While initially the nose was surprisingly muted, a quick decant seemed to turn the key to much greater depth. Stewed red fruits lead to a ‘growingly’ remarkable palate of bot power as well as finesse. While the tannins are obvious, evident, and young- it seems with every minute that goes by it relaxes. While doing so, revealing layer after layer of evolution and new experience. Like a lot of other Barbarescos: please be patient. Doing so will only reward you. — 5 months ago

Roagna

La Pira Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

More muscular than the Gallina (rightfully so!), but in no way lacking finesse. Concentrated with assertive tannins, yet so lithe and pure. On the nose, roses, incense, cherries, strawberries, eucalyptus, juniper, leather, and a touch of tar. With air, the fruits came to the forefront, popping out with such clarity. On the palate, the young Barolo tannins did seem to dominate, but under it was a really fine red fruit character that gave it such a lovely drinkability. Some minerality in the lengthy finish, though not quite as palpable as on the Gallina. WOTN for all on the table. Compared to the Gallina, I can’t quite say one was better than the other - just different Roagna interpretations of Nebbiolo. — 2 years ago
