Mac Forbes

Hugh Gruyere Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

From magnum. A well balanced well made medium bodied Cabernet from Mac Forbes in the Yarra Valley. Some vegetal notes to the red fruits but in balance and easy to drink with a Waygu Porterhouse on the 23rd with relatives from the UK. Probably at its peak. Bought back in the day as we have a son named Hugh who is with us from NYC and like many of his contemporaries has given up drinking! — a month ago

Interesting cool climate cab led Aussie Bordeaux…think I left it too late to drink it, best at 5-7 years given freshness in winemaking style? — 4 months ago

Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Just a wonderfully crafted & delicious VIRGINIA CS - at 7.5yrs old, the concentration and density were in stride. Richness without losing balance. well done, Michael.! Rich black cherry, dark chocolate, and thyme combine for a wonderful red meat companion — 8 months ago

Tasting perfect right now. Big dark fruit cocktail, some wood and earth. 2 hour decant helped open up. Plums, chocolate strawberries, cherries jubilee, pepper, some vanilla, wood. I am enjoying this one. — 7 months ago

Meritage 2017

Fantastic at eight years old! Vibrant dark/red fruit… a touch of thyme and a pinch of rosemary. Michael Shaps built this and you can tell. Fantastic attack (cherry sweetness) and the mid palate is just a tango of balance (slightly stewed fruit and herbs)…
Medium finish but delightful in staying inside the boundaries for what this wine is meant to do

Oh yea baby. Smokey, fruited, well aged. Big but not obnoxious. Complex. — 7 months ago
