Discovery of the red Humagne grape variety 🇨🇭which produces medium bodied wines. Rustic and flowery. Medium ruby color, beautiful brilliant shine.
Nose mixing red fruit, gentian, notes of almonds, bacon, and terroir. In the mouth we discover specific, herbaceous and animal notes which support a discreet aging and aromas of tangy red fruits. Autumn wine that will accompany game birds and fatty butter-based sauces
— 6 years ago

Color : White
Wine estate : Valentina Andrei
Designation : Saillon
Name : Humagne Blanche
Country : Switzerland
Vivino : 4.5/5
Note : A delight every moment we open a bottle of Valentina Andrei. With its yellow robe and small green chips (linked to its youth), we are on a citrus nose. On the palate, a nice greediness that grows in length with lemon flavors. A true delight that refreshes us and makes us happier. It is not for nothing that we call this wine, a wine for woman having given birth. Simply a happy feeling and serenity.

— 8 years ago
I have FINALLY tried wine from the rare Humange Rouge grape, grown deep in the Swiss Alps, and it did not disappoint.
Black cherry and Cranberry to start before settling into a herbal and lightly mineral finish. The way it twists from one into the other is beautiful. — 9 months ago

Light Swiss wine, fruity, red light fruits 👌 — 3 years ago
Strong round flavour. Excellent grape. Goes well together with heavy meat like deer, lamb and also beef.
Very natural taste mitigated by any wooden barrel, but the taste of a wood aroma and berry notes prevail. What I call a true and honest wine.
As said, quite heavy so be prudent — 6 years ago
A very different proposal of red blend from Switzerland containing Pinot Noir, Syrah, Humagne Rouge, Diolinoir and Gamaret... a generous taste not complex, not fruity but a kind woody. Humble tones! — 7 years ago

This is not a straight Cornalin, it is an assemblage. « Assemblage de cépages nobles, Elevé en foudre de chêne suisse» and in Swiss oak rather than French. The Cornalin and Humane Rouge blend well with the Syrah. There is a spicyness that leads to a soft but medium long finish. — 6 years ago
Here as guests of the Listers, our wonderful friends from IRCC who live in Switzerland 6 months per year. Sat on patio with sun and light breeze. David ordered this local wine, a vibrant medium body with good finish. What a treat. — 7 years ago

Alpine Roots Humagne Rouge 2023, AOC Valais, Switzerland 🇨🇭
Overview
100% Humagne Rouge, an indigenous Alpine variety from the Valais region of Switzerland. Grown in steep mountain vineyards with strong sun exposure and cool alpine influence. A terroir-driven wine that reflects the purity, freshness, and rustic charm of Swiss mountain viticulture.
Aromas & Flavors
Wild dark berries, red currant, cocoa powder, subtle dried herbs, and a touch of alpine earthiness. The fruit remains fresh while savory tones begin to emerge with air.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium body with soft edges and refined rusticity. Gentle tannins and bright acidity keep the wine lively and approachable. A textured palate that leans savory rather than fruit-heavy.
Food Pairings
Charcuterie, roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, alpine cheeses, lamb sausages, or herb-driven Mediterranean dishes.
Verdict
Distinctive and surprisingly charming. A wine that doesn’t try to imitate global varieties but instead celebrates its mountain identity. Approachable, food-friendly, and quietly intriguing.
Did You Know?
Humagne Rouge is native to the Swiss Alps and thrives in the steep terraces of Valais, where intense sunlight and cool mountain nights help maintain freshness and aromatic clarity.
🍷 Personal Pick
A wonderful curveball wine. Rustic, cocoa-tinged, and incredibly food friendly, the kind of bottle that makes people ask, “Wait… Switzerland makes wine?” — 4 months ago
