Didn’t know much about Loire valley red wines until this random bottle popped up. Very nice - red fruit and grippy tannins. Some earth tones. — a month ago

Château Grand-Pontet

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Lunch 🥪

K&L notes as follows, Grand Pontet is an interesting property, positioned in the neighborhood of other stars of the appellation such as Châteaux Canon, Beau-Séjour-Bécot and Clos Fourtet. It is, however, a small estate, a mere 14 hectares, and its prices are much better than some of its more prestigious neighbors. In 1980 it was purchased by Gerard and Dominique Bécot, owners of the neighboring Beau-Séjour-Bécot. They have applied the same high standards to both Châteaux in their possession, and their winemaking team crafts Grand Pontet alongside the Beau-Séjour-Bécot wines. Recently purchased in 2021 by Domaines Clarence Dillon (Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, et al.), the property was combined with and incorporated into Château Quintus. Full-bodied and luscious, this Grand Pontet is laden with ripe blackberry fruits, savory tobacco, licorice notes, and ripe, softened tannins. It’s seamless and bold, not shy. It’s going to require something decadent to pair with, such as filet mignon or some other black-tie dish with plenty of flavor and rich umami presence.

Château Chantecaille Clauzel

Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

See previous note which was my longest ever Delectable note. This wine has such an interesting story. Virtually unknown and surrounded by Right Bank royalty like Evangile, La Dominique and Petrus. Mainly Merlot with a small % of Cabernet Franc. Dark fruits with blackberry and a touch of vanilla. Only medium weight with soft fine tannins. Quite detuned. Cost $45 and drinks to its price point unlike the expensive wines produced by the neighbours. This tiny 0.4 hectare block’s grapes would normally be absorbed by one of the neighbours and end up in a much more expensive Cuvée. The previous Delectable note is incorrectly called Chateau Vieux Chantecaille but the lengthy description refers to this same wine. — 5 years ago

Yes Peter. Having only 0.4 hectare there is no room for a winery so it is vinified elsewhere.

Château Le Sèpe Cuvée Initiale Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Vintage 2016 | surprising under the radar Bordeaux. Sainte Radegonde lies in Entre Deux Mers. The fascinating bouquet got my attention. It is só joyful, combination of red fruit and minerals, utterly balanced, reminds me a bit of Saint Julien. A Point now. Gives much much pleasure. — 2 years ago

Les Hespérides Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2013

Nose has smokey dry earth, dry lavender, old licorice, dried black cherry, ripe black currant, dried blackberry and (light) dried oak.

Palate has silky dried blackberry, ripe plum, black currant jam, (light) dark chocolate, dried blueberry and light tannins. Mouth coating texture. Future bottles should be 2023+

50% Grenache & 50% Mourvédre

Paired with a bottom round beef roast, slow cooked 8+ hours with autumn root vegetables and the au jus from the roast, thickened with a little of my own tomato paste, delicious.

Haven’t had a CdP in a minute, this makes me thirsty for one! On an unrelated notes love the new profile pic 😻

Thanks. Not big CdP drinkers here, as most need time to settle. Household storage bottles are recent, so they're sleeping. Have enough older versions, but they are off-site, so hard to PnP, planning required.
Not a 'new' pic, been rocking it for several weeks. Until Julia and Team push out the Android update to address the first round of bugs on their new version, I can't update it. I'm going to work thru all of the fur-kids once I have the ability to change it again.

Palate delivers ripe blackrasberry pie, clove, cedar box and cranberry. Persistent with balance and freshness. 50% Cabernet franc, 45% merlot, 5% Malbec. Grown on blue clay soils, with famous neighbors of Chevalier Blanc and La Dominique. Drink with short decant or hold. — 4 years ago
